A Comprehensive Study on Corporate Digital Tool Utilization Post-Pandemic

In a significant research effort, Nikkei BP Consulting, located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has conducted an extensive study that sheds light on the current status of digital tool utilization in corporations four years after their last survey. Targeting 5,000 companies, comprising 3,500 listed and 1,500 unlisted firms, the initiative entitled "Survey on Corporate Digital Tool Utilization 2026" provides insights through three core themes: contract actualities for business terminals, usage patterns of online communication, and the landscape of generative AI utilization and management.

1. Mobile Market Dichotomy: Quality vs. Cost

The corporate mobile market has evolved significantly, with a clear shift towards a smartphone-centric environment, particularly focusing on iPhones. This shift occurs in a mature market characterized by a redistribution of market share among the three primary telecom operators. Companies now seem to fall broadly into two categories based on their carrier preferences: those prioritizing quality and those focused on cost. This suggests that mere comparison of communication services will not suffice in the future; businesses will need to provide comprehensive value that includes security features and operational support to maintain competitiveness.

2. Establishment of Online Communication as a Business Infrastructure

Online communication has transitioned from a temporary solution during the pandemic to an established business infrastructure that is expected to expand in usage. This market consolidation points towards a primary interest among companies shifting from basic communication functionalities to enhanced operational efficiency driven by AI technologies. The data showcases increasing reliance on major online communication services as organizations look to optimize performance rather than merely communicate.

3. Generative AI: Moving from Experimentation to Mastery

Generative AI and machine learning are increasingly regarded as pivotal areas for future investment within DX technologies. Many companies have initiated the integration of generative AI into their operations; however, the adoption primarily remains restricted to select tasks or limited usage scenarios. A significant challenge ahead is the establishment of a cohesive operational framework for a broader deployment across organizations. Companies are prioritizing safety measures against data breaches and privacy risks as they develop guidelines and control systems for AI tools. Nonetheless, there’s a marked variance in the maturity of governance frameworks and knowledge-sharing capabilities between firms.
