The event was organized by Nihon Eiga Broadcasting, which operates the Japanese Film Channel, in celebration of the upcoming broadcast of all ten of Itami's films in May. Miyamoto reflected on her experiences working under Itami’s direction, stating, “He truly values the space between actors. 'Supermarket Woman' is a refreshing film that showcases the engaging banter between Masahiko Tsugawa and myself.” In contrast, Non expressed her admiration for Itami's films, noting, “His films tackle societal themes while also squeezing humor into every scene. The visual storytelling in his films is mesmerizing!” Together, they reminisced about their years-long friendship since their collaboration on the popular TV drama 'Amachan' in 2013, which left a significant cultural impact in Japan.

Non referred to Miyamoto as a “super” presence that transforms the atmosphere on set, which resonated with the audience and elicited enthusiastic applause.

Itami Juzo 4K Film Festival Details


The Itami Juzo 4K Film Festival runs until May 1, 2025, at the TOHO Cinemas in Hibiya and Umeda, showcasing selections including 'Supermarket Woman' until April 24 and 'Marutai Woman' from April 25 to May 1.

Additionally, on May 17 at 8 PM, the Japanese Film Channel will broadcast all ten films directed by Itami in stunning 4K resolution, providing fans with a rare opportunity to experience his significant works.

Nobuko Miyamoto’s Reflection


In a personal reflection, Miyamoto shared her gratitude: “Movies are a culmination of the director’s effort. Even after all these years, it’s heartwarming to hold a film festival showcasing these ten classic films for audiences to enjoy.” She also praised Non, saying, “Since our ‘Amachan’ days, she has been refreshingly earnest, and that has not changed. Now, she has blossomed into a strong woman who articulates herself with confidence.”

Non paid homage to Miyamoto’s vibrant characters, stating, “Her bold and lively performances are stylish and striking. She has the ability to alter the atmosphere on set, which is exceptionally impressive. If given the chance, I would love to portray Hanako from 'Supermarket Woman.'
