Huawei and HM Hospitals Launch Global Smart Healthcare Initiative at MWC 2026

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 held in Barcelona, Huawei hosted a summit titled "AI+, Accelerating Healthcare Intelligence". This prominent event brought together top-tier healthcare experts, scientists, and industrial partners from around the globe to explore innovative digital solutions for healthcare.

One of the major highlights of the summit was the official launch of the Global Smart Healthcare Showcase in collaboration with HM Hospitals, located in Spain. This showcase represents a significant step forward in combining China's leading digital technologies with European healthcare expertise, promising a practical blueprint for the intelligent modernization of global healthcare systems.

Li Junfeng, Vice President of Huawei and CEO of the Global Public Sector Business Unit, emphasized the importance of this partnership during his keynote speech. He stated that HM Hospitals would serve as the first Smart Healthcare Showcase in Europe. This collaboration aims not just for technological integration but for an era where health services optimize operations and enhance patient experiences through innovation.

Xavier Tarrago Bonfill, Digital Transformation Project Lead at HM Hospitals, elaborated on the technical architecture that supports the showcase. The collaboration focuses on modernizing digital infrastructure and implementing Huawei's cutting-edge solutions. Key components include the digitization of medical technology and the comprehensive development of smart hospital campuses. The infrastructure will utilize Wi-Fi 7 and high-performance devices, alongside 2.5GE cable connections, to meet the clinical needs for low latency and high bandwidth.

Moreover, the use of Huawei's CloudCampus and CampusInsight platforms provides a framework for intelligent network maintenance and operation, enhancing the interconnectivity within the healthcare environment. On the medical technology front, the partnership has fortified their Hospital Information System (HIS) and the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) with Huawei's all-flash storage solutions, ensuring seamless health service continuity.

In enhancing operational efficiency, the integration of a medical Data Lake, supported by Scale-Out storage, allows for the automatic management of vast amounts of unstructured data. This enhancement not only accommodates the evolving needs of imaging and pathology systems but also lays a rapid digital foundation for intelligent diagnostics and treatments.
