Discovering Career Aspirations: DOMINISTA CHALLENGE Program in Hakodate

Nurturing Career Aspirations with DOMINISTA CHALLENGE

The Kyoritsu Maintenance Company is set to host a special event aimed at high school students, taking place from November 6 to 7 at the picturesque La Vista Hakodate Bay in Hokkaido. This program, titled the "DOMINISTA CHALLENGE," invites local high school students from Hakodate Commercial High School to immerse themselves in the world of hospitality, covering various aspects of hotel management and customer service.

About the DOMINISTA CHALLENGE

The DOMINISTA CHALLENGE is not an entirely new initiative. Launched in 2019, this career experience program has been implemented in hotels across Japan, targeting middle and high school students. It provides attendees with the chance to engage directly with hotel operations such as front desk duties, cleaning routines, and bed-making practices. One of the program's essential missions is to foster a sense of community service and teamwork among participants, enhancing their understanding of their local culture and the significance of hospitality.

The aim is to not only give students an inside look into the hospitality industry but also to cultivate a love for their hometown and equip them with valuable insights into character-building and professional skills. In an age characterized by globalization and cultural diversity, experiencing the hospitality sector firsthand becomes a pivotal educational experience for these young learners. As of now, over 70 schools have participated in the program, with 23 from the Hokkaido and Tohoku regions alone, underscoring its importance in career education.

Program Details

The DOMINISTA CHALLENGE focuses on helping students develop essential skills and knowledge for their future careers while helping them to contemplate their career choices. The program consists of:
  • - Date and Time: November 6 (Thursday) 11 AM - 3 PM and November 7 (Friday) 9 AM - 3 PM
  • - Courses Offered: Classroom sessions covering job descriptions and etiquette lectures
  • - Hands-On Experience: Front desk operations, learning hotel manners, joining in on customer service interactions including check-ins and check-outs, preparing welcome drinks, and assisting in the restaurant during breakfast.

Feedback from Officials

Representatives from Hakodate Commercial High School emphasized the importance of hands-on experience in linking classroom learning to future job prospects. They hope this initiative will guide students in their career decisions moving forward.

Similarly, Kobayashi Reo, the manager of La Vista Hakodate Bay, shared insights on how this enriching experience allows students to gain skills absent from classroom settings. He highlighted the joy and significance of serving customers, preparing for their arrival, and fostering connections with staff as crucial learning points.

Future Perspectives

In light of the increasing uncertainties affecting society and the economy, experiencing the value and fulfillment of work is becoming more crucial than ever. Additionally, with Japan facing a declining population, cultivating a sense of community and readiness to address local challenges among youth is vital. Kyoritsu Maintenance remains committed to providing young people opportunities to discover the joy of helping others while nurturing their connections to their community. The program encourages proactive thinking about their futures and local society.
