The ActiMethod Hibarigaoka School is set to open its doors in June 2026, marking a significant milestone in innovative language education. Developed by i GO Corporation, the ActiMethod combines typing skills with English learning, creating a unique approach that aims to enhance children's language abilities effectively. With over 100 branches successfully launched by December 2025, the ActiMethod program is rapidly gaining traction across the country.

Transforming English Education

As English has been established as a mandatory subject in elementary schools for over three years, substantial changes have occurred in how children learn the language. Starting from the 2020 academic year, the curriculum underwent major updates for both elementary and middle schools, significantly increasing the educators' focus on integrated skills.

By the time students reach the fifth and sixth grades, they participate in two English classes per week, totaling 70 hours a year. This provides a balanced development of the four essential skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The newly established curriculum aligns closely with the middle school standards, ensuring continuity in learning the language. This shift indicates that English education is becoming more rigorous in its demands on elementary students.

Furthermore, the implementation of foreign language activities has begun earlier, officially commencing in the third and fourth grades. In addition, middle school vocabulary requirements have expanded from 1,200 words to between 1,600 and 1,800 words, incorporating more comprehensive and immersive English classes aiming for a fully English-speaking environment.

Adding to the transformation, programming classes are also now mandatory, reflecting a broader change in the educational framework at the elementary level. With the introduction of new university entrance exams aligned with this revised curriculum set to begin in April 2024, the landscape of education continues to evolve rapidly.

The Power of the ActiMethod

The ActiMethod leverages typing as a core element of its English learning process, focusing on high-volume vocabulary acquisition within short time frames. Unlike traditional writing methods, the ActiMethod emphasizes typing proficiency as students engage with the language. By typing English words on their keyboards, children not only enhance their vocabulary but also learn pronunciation through accompanying audio cues, ensuring an optimal and interactive learning experience.

As students grow accustomed to typing practice, they can work at speeds five to ten times faster compared to traditional handwriting methods, making their learning process more efficient and engaging.
