Care Resource Housing Program Transforms Lives in South Florida

Recently, Care Resource Community Health Centers, Inc. has made a significant impact on the lives of families in South Florida. With funding from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, this initiative has successfully assisted 37 families, encompassing 131 individuals, including 81 children, in overcoming housing instability.

Since the program’s launch, 29 families have transitioned into stable living conditions, supported through various essential services such as housing navigation, advocacy, financial assistance, and personalized case management. In total, more than $156,000 has been allocated to aid these families in securing themselves a safe home.

A sobering example of this initiative's impact is highlighted by a mother and her eight children who were struggling to maintain a stable living environment. Previously, they were cramped in unsatisfactory conditions with extended family. This challenging arrangement was particularly strenuous due to the youngest child's health issues requiring ongoing medical attention and a safe place to grow. The challenge of finding affordable housing that could accommodate a family of nine posed a significant obstacle.

Thanks to Care Resource’s Housing Services program and the support of the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, the family received vital assistance tailored to their needs. Through personalized housing navigation and case management services, they were able to obtain a spacious three-bedroom home—an environment where they can not only stabilize but thrive.

“This family’s story illustrates what can be achieved when housing support, healthcare, and community resources collaborate effectively,” stated Francisco Gomez, Director of Housing Services at Care Resource. He emphasized that stable housing lays the groundwork for families to enhance their health and attain greater independence.

In addition to securing stable housing, the mother found full-time employment as a Dental Receptionist at Care Resource, adding another layer of financial security for her family. The psychosocial benefits of stable housing are profound; it provides children with adequate space to grow and develop and opens new doors for parents in terms of employment and stability.

Nonetheless, housing instability remains a pressing issue for numerous families throughout South Florida. Support from philanthropic partners, like the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, is pivotal in allowing Care Resource to extend its capabilities—offering housing navigation, financial assistance, and case management services to those at risk.
