Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra Begins Ticket Sales for 2026-27 Season Concerts

Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra: 2026-27 Season Ticket Sales Begin

The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan's oldest orchestra founded in 1911, is set to unveil its 2026-27 season with the launch of individual ticket sales for concerts scheduled from July 2026 to February 2027. This comes after the completion of an impressive European tour in the fall of 2025, where its esteemed music director, Chung Myung-whun, received accolades for the orchestra's rendition of the canonical German Romantic repertoire in February.

Individual tickets for the concerts between July 2026 and February 2027 will be available at a 10% discount (excluding SS seats) during a limited purchase period from April 11 to May 7 through the Tokyo Philharmonic's online ticket service. Concertgoers interested in regular subscriptions can consider advantageous regular membership tickets that allow access to several performances at Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Suntory Hall, and Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, where the individual series will be held.

This season promises an exciting lineup, with discounts available for early bookings. Lauded for its blend of tradition and innovation, the orchestra is eager to present a vibrant season. The Tokyo Opera City regular series will kick off in July with various performances scheduled throughout the season. The repertoire covers an array of compositions, including Bizet's opera 'Carmen', which will be conducted by Chung in its concert format in July.

Concert Venues and Ticket Purchasing

The 2026-27 seasons will unfold with series at three distinguished venues:
1. Bunkamura Orchard Hall
2. Suntory Hall
3. Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall

In July, patrons will get to experience the premiere of the Tokyo Opera City series featuring a concert performance of Bizet's 'Carmen', led by the award-winning Chung Myung-whun. In August, acclaimed maestro Kenichiro Kobayashi, known as the 'Fiery Maestro', will showcase Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and Rimsky-Korsakov’s 'Scheherazade' with violinist Keira Wakaō.

October features a thrilling performance led by Chung again, blending Sibelius’s Violin Concerto with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The season continues through to February 2027 with a series of captivating musical experiences, such as performances demonstrating Mikhail Pletnev’s original compositions and the interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s captivating Fourth Symphony.
