Okinawa Frescoball Camp 2025 on Miyako Island
The Japan Frescoball Association (JFBA), led by Executive Director Kenji Kuboshima, is thrilled to announce its collaboration with the "Ocean Fun Fest 2025 Miyako Island". This event, dubbed the "Okinawa Frescoball Camp 2025 on Miyako Island," will take place on December 13-14, showcasing the vibrant culture of frescoball in Japan.
Hosted by the Miyako Island Future Production Committee, the Ocean Fun Fest 2025 is set to happen at Yonaha Maehama Beach on December 13 and 14. This year marks its second iteration, featuring not only beach volleyball and beach soccer tournaments but also the JFBA’s local frescoball competition. In 2023, the association successfully organized the "Okinawa Frescoball Camp 2023" at the same picturesque location, which has been influential in strengthening ties with Miyako Island.
One of the highlights of this year's event is the introduction of locally crafted frescoball paddles from the Okinawan brand "TIDA," made from regional timber. This initiative underscores the deep-rooted connection between the island and the sport of frescoball.
Currently, there is a local group, the "Miyako Island Frescoball Club," that operates informally on the island, even though it is not yet recognized by JFBA. The upcoming local tournament aims to move towards formal JFBA recognition for regional clubs. Excitingly, the tournament will also feature invited players from outside the prefecture, including notable competitors such as Kazushi Matsumura and Saki Touma from the "Fresoball Kansai GVK," as well as Yai Asakura and Nozomi Kikushima from the "Zushi Frescoball Club."
On December 13, an athlete exchange event will take place, and on December 14, a special performance by a talented artist will entertain the crowd. Local food vendors will set up food trucks, promising a fun-filled experience for everyone attending.

What is Frescoball?
Frescoball is a beach sport that originated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1945, specifically at Copacabana Beach. It has evolved into a popular game played on beaches around the world. The unique aspect of frescoball is that it is a cooperative scoring sport, where two opposing players do not compete against each other, but instead work together to keep the rally going. Matches are played over five minutes at a distance of seven meters, which contributes to its reputation as a "sport of compassion."
The JFBA is actively working towards unifying the international rules in conjunction with the Rio Frescoball Federation (FEFERJ) and aims to establish the world’s first international organization named "UAFI" by October 2025, promoting a global frescoball community.
