Meijer Expands Presence with New Supercenters in Northeast Ohio Communities

Introduction

Meijer, a family-owned retailer, recently expanded its footprint in Northeast Ohio with the grand opening of three new supercenters. Each location spans an impressive 159,000 square feet and aims to provide exceptional value and convenience for customers in the communities of Austintown, Medina, and Richmond Heights.

A Commitment to Quality and Convenience

Meijer is well-known for its vast selection of fresh groceries and unbeatable prices, and these new supercenters are no exception. Shoppers can expect an extensive assortment of farm-fresh produce, which includes hundreds of USDA-certified organic items. The stores also feature a full-service deli and meat department, alongside various departments for beauty care, apparel, pet supplies, floral arrangements, and gardening needs.

To further enhance the shopping experience, Meijer integrates modern technology into its services. The Shop & Scan feature, available through the Meijer mobile app, allows shoppers to scan items as they shop, streamlining the checkout process. Additionally, customers can access discounts on surplus food through the Flashfood app and benefit from Meijer's Home Delivery and Pickup services. The mPerks rewards program also offers customers the chance to earn rewards for every dollar spent in-store.

Community Engagement and Support

Meijer's commitment to community welfare is evident in its actions. On opening day, the company made a significant gesture by donating $90,000 to ten local organizations across the three new locations. In Austintown, donations ranged from supporting the Hope Foundation of Mahoning Valley to the St. Vincent DePaul Foundation. Meanwhile, in Medina, contributions were made to various organizations, including The Children's Center of Medina County and Feeding Medina County. In Richmond Heights, support was directed towards the Richmond Heights Education Foundation among others.

Executive Chairman Hank Meijer expressed pride in their continued service, stating, “As a family company that’s been serving Midwest customers for 90 years, we are humbled to be able to bring our unique shopping experience to more communities.” In line with this philosophy, Meijer donates at least six percent of its annual net profits to aid local non-profits and fight hunger. The Simply Give program, initiated in 2008, has remarkably generated over $100 million for food pantries throughout the Midwest.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

With these new openings, Meijer continues to reinforce its economic impact within the region. The retailer has invested over half a billion dollars in Northeast Ohio over the past few years, which includes the remodeling of nearly 25 stores. Employing more than 12,000 individuals across the state, Meijer contributes significantly to local employment and community growth. President and CEO, Rick Keyes, emphasized the dedication of their teams at the new locations, remarking, “Our three new store teams are already working hard to deliver value and convenience to our customers.”

Inclusivity and Accessibility

In their commitment to inclusivity, Meijer has implemented several accessibility enhancements within the new supercenters. New larger, height-adjustable changing tables in family restrooms are now available to cater to customers with disabilities and their caregivers. The stores also provide free access to Aira, an app that assists blind and low-vision customers with navigation inside the store, ensuring a more enjoyable shopping experience for everyone.

Conclusion

Meijer’s expansion into Northeast Ohio with these new supercenters marks a significant step in their mission to serve communities wholeheartedly. By offering value-driven shopping experiences, engaging with local organizations, creating job opportunities, and focusing on inclusivity, Meijer is set to become an integral part of the Austintown, Medina, and Richmond Heights communities. As the company continues to grow, it remains firmly dedicated to delivering exceptional service and support to its customers and communities alike.
