Tencent Esports Competition Solution to Elevate Gaming at the 20th Asian Games

Tencent Esports Competition Solution at the 20th Asian Games

Esports is making a significant comeback at the 20th Asian Games, held from September 22 to October 2 at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Japan. This year marks the second time that esports will be included as an official medal event. With a record-breaking program featuring eleven competitions across six gaming categories, Tencent Esports is stepping up to provide essential technical support through their innovative Esports Competition Solution (ECS).

A Comprehensive Technical Support System

The ECS is designed specifically for large-scale, intercontinental esports events and aims to maintain fair play and consistent competitive conditions across all competitions. Unlike traditional esports leagues that cater to individual titles, the ECS takes into account the complexities of managing multiple teams and games within a unified framework. This requires synchronization across different game engines, version controls, and device formats.

The ECS will support various key phases of the competitions:
1. Pre-Game Equipment Inspection: Before the competitions commence, inspection stations will verify player peripherals and the overall competition environment while maintaining logs.
2. Real-Time Monitoring During Events: A monitoring console will track over 30 indicators, including device and network status, consolidating various video feeds like Player POV, Observer View, and handheld camera perspectives.
3. Post-Game Analysis: After each match, competition officials can access game logs and footage for analysis, ensuring proper documentation and review.

Ensuring Fairness in Multisport Events

Yati Zhang, Director of Tencent Esports, emphasized the need for standardized protocols in esports as it integrates with traditional sports. "The introduction of ECS transforms traditionally manual processes, such as equipment checks and live monitoring, into systematic, trackable procedures that enhance accountability and transparency," she stated. Through ECS, Tencent aims to establish a reusable technical foundation for esports competitions across Asia and beyond.

In preparation for the 20th Asian Games, Tencent Esports ran three test events across Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam from January to June 2026. These trials allowed the tech team to validate their systems across different venues and conditions before the official competitions.

A Strategic Partnership

Tencent Esports, part of a ten-year strategic partnership with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), is committed to evolving the esports landscape in Asia. OCA Director-General Husain Al-Musallam mentioned that the shift from merely participating in events to collaboratively developing technologies and systems marks a transformative phase for Asian esports.

Looking ahead, the deployment of ECS at the Asian Games represents a pivotal step towards creating a more standardized and institutionalized competition framework in esports. As the industry continues to grow, establishing reliable and equal systems of play will be vital.

With esports at the forefront of emerging sports, the ECS serves not only the current competitions but also sets the stage for more sophisticated events in the future. The comprehensive system employed at the Asian Games will act as a large-scale test for how standardized technical solutions can effectively support esports within a multisport context.

The rapid development of esports is underscored by Tencent’s commitment to creating a global standard for competitions and technical standards for future events. As esports becomes more integrated into the broader sporting ecosystem, initiatives such as ECS will help establish a solid foundation for the sustainable growth of this exciting industry.
