Guardian Life Insurance Company Restructures for Future Growth

On May 28, 2025, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America made significant organizational and leadership changes aimed at supporting its ambitious growth strategy. This move comes as Guardian reinforces its status as a leader in protection solutions, wealth management, and workplace benefits in an ever-evolving market. As part of this transformation, the Individual Markets business has been divided into two distinct units: Financial Protection & Retirement Solutions and Client Solutions & Wealth Management. This restructuring is designed to sharpen accountability and enhance the ability to address the changing needs of consumers.

In this newly formed structure, Erin Culek has been appointed to lead the Financial Protection & Retirement Solutions unit. Culek, who joined Guardian in 2020 as Chief Strategy & Operating Officer, has been instrumental in executing strategic partnerships and advancing Guardian's transition towards a consumer-centric, data-driven organization. Her responsibilities will now include overseeing the innovation and strategy of Guardian's offering of financial protection products, which encompasses life, disability, and annuities.

Mike Perry will be stepping into the role of leader for Client Solutions & Wealth Management. With an impressive background of over 30 years in the field, Perry previously held the position of Executive Vice President at Nuveen, where he was in charge of the Global Client and Product Group. Starting August 4, Perry will oversee the General Agency system and develop potential new channels for the company's wealth management operations.

Michael Prestileo, who has been with Guardian since 2020 and has previously served as Chief Commercial Officer for the Group Benefits branch, will now lead Enterprise Strategy & Growth Initiatives. In this position, Prestileo will manage key areas such as corporate development, artificial intelligence, and sourcing teams, ensuring that Guardian remains at the forefront of innovation and market-leading strategies.

Continuing on the leadership path, Stacey Hoin, Chief Human Resources Officer, will expand her portfolio to include oversight of Corporate Impact and Workplace and Real Estate Strategy. She joined Guardian in 2021 and has already made significant strides in fostering an innovative and inclusive corporate culture.

Chairman and CEO Andrew McMahon expressed confidence in the capabilities of Culek and Perry, stating, “They bring extraordinary experience to our growth strategy and are the right leaders to enhance our ability to meet our clients' holistic planning and protection needs.” He also commended the dedication of existing leaders like Hoin and Prestileo as Guardian gears up for long-term success.

As part of these transitions, Michael Ferik, the Head of Individual Markets, will depart from Guardian effective August 31. Ferik has made valuable contributions to the Individual Markets division and will work closely with the incoming leaders to ensure a seamless transition for the company and its customers. McMahon recognized Ferik’s pivotal role in Guardian’s success, highlighting his efforts in building strong foundations within the company.
