FirstEnergy Foundation Makes Generous Donation of $25,000 to Aid Red Cross Disaster Relief Efforts
FirstEnergy Foundation's $25,000 Donation to the American Red Cross
On May 8, 2025, the FirstEnergy Foundation proudly announced its contribution of $25,000 to the American Red Cross in a move aimed at bolstering disaster assistance efforts for families in the region served by Jersey Central Power & Light (JCPL). This substantial donation follows the recent emergency response by the Red Cross during the Jones Road Wildfire, which severely affected communities in Ocean County, New Jersey.
Response to Wildfire Crisis
The Jones Road Wildfire erupted in April 2025 and rapidly escalated, threatening more than 1,300 structures. In total, 5,000 residents were forced to evacuate their homes as more than 15,000 acres fell victim to the flames in areas served by JCPL. In a show of solidarity and safety, JCPL temporarily shut off power to over 25,000 customers in line with requests from emergency responders, ensuring the safety of both firefighters and residents. The Red Cross acted immediately, providing essential support to those impacted, including shelter, food, and comfort. “When a crisis strikes, we know our community can count on the Red Cross to be on the front lines helping those in need,” noted Doug Mokoid, President of FirstEnergy.
Importance of Community Partnerships
The collaboration between FirstEnergy and the American Red Cross exemplifies the power of community partnerships during critical times. As Mokoid emphasized, when FirstEnergy's crews respond to emergencies, they often find the Red Cross offering support, helping communities regain their footing post-disaster. Kim Goetz, Executive Director of the American Red Cross New Jersey Region, expressed gratitude for the generous support from the FirstEnergy Foundation, highlighting that such donations make a significant difference in the organization's capacity to respond effectively to disasters. “Without the selfless dedication of volunteers and supporters like the FirstEnergy Foundation, our work is not possible,
