As winter settles in, families are rethinking their dining options, seeking meals that combine indulgence with health consciousness. This shift comes against the backdrop of rising prices and health trends, redefining what is valued in home-cooked meals. While dining out is becoming less frequent, the desire for a special atmosphere at home continues to grow. The Japanese Chicken Association has recently conducted a survey revealing that chicken sukiyaki is emerging as a preferred choice—a lighter, healthier alternative to traditional beef sukiyaki.

1. The Desire for Luxury Amid Rising Prices



The survey, which included respondents aged 20 to 69 from across Japan, indicated that about 81.5% of participants consume hot pot dishes multiple times each winter. This reinforces the idea that hot pot is central to winter home-cooking. The main factors people look for in a hot pot experience are a sense of luxury (34.5%) and the ability to enjoy meals together as a family (31.9%).
