Hydron Energy Inc. has made headlines recently with its new collaboration with FortisBC Energy Inc. This partnership aims to investigate the feasibility of utilizing Hydron's innovative INTRUPTor™ biogas upgrading technology at various locations throughout British Columbia, Canada. The goal is to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of producing Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and significantly diminish greenhouse gas emissions in the region.

Hydron Energy, known for its commitment to creating cleaner fuels, has developed the INTRUPTor™ solution, which boasts an impressive 99.8% recovery rate of biomethane at targeted RNG purity levels. Soheil Khiavi, Hydron's President and CEO, emphasized the advantages of their mobile unit currently in operation in Ontario, which achieves remarkable capital and operational cost savings while substantially reducing carbon emissions—by as much as 85%.

The INTRUPTor™ platform utilizes a revolutionary technology that transforms raw gases into low-carbon fuel through a process that is not only efficient but also cost-effective when compared to traditional gas-upgrading methods. By providing a scalable and affordable solution, Hydron aims to facilitate RNG production from anaerobic digesters, wastewater treatment facilities, and landfills.

An important aspect of the RNG produced by the INTRUPTor™ is its low carbon footprint, as it relies on existing organic carbon, preventing the addition of net new carbon into the atmosphere. Joe Mazza, Vice President of Energy Supply and Resource Development at FortisBC, expressed excitement about the collaborative potential, highlighting his company's ongoing work with local suppliers to capture gas that would otherwise be released into the environment to create RNG. He stated, "We look forward to assessing Hydron's gas upgrading solution to potentially enhance our energy infrastructure and expand our RNG facilities."

One of the standout features of the INTRUPTor™ is its ambient operating conditions, eliminating the need for complex equipment such as feed compressors and vacuum pumps. This simplicity translates to significant reductions in both capital and operational expenditures—estimated to be up to 50% less than conventional systems. Furthermore, it offers a versatile range, managing biogas upgrades for facilities with capacities spanning from 100 Nm³/hr to 3,800 Nm³/hr. Its Mobile Solution presents on-site gas upgrading capabilities, opening doors for smaller producers who previously faced logistical challenges regarding high-quality gas production.
