New Study Validates Glycemic Control with MiniMed 780G System



In a groundbreaking study, MiniMed (Nasdaq: MMED), a leader in diabetes management technology, has unveiled findings that highlight the effectiveness of the MiniMed 780G system. Published in Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, the randomized crossover trial compared two types of sensors to see how they influenced glucose monitoring and control in participants.

The study involved 24 adults diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, who were each assigned to use either the Simplera Sync™ sensor or the Instinct sensor over six weeks. After this period, participants switched to the alternate sensor for another six weeks. This innovative approach was designed to eliminate potential bias from prior experiences with the sensors and insulin pumps.

The results of the trial were remarkable. Key glycemic metrics indicated that participants maintained impressive glucose levels regardless of the sensor used. Time in the target glucose range (70-180 mg/dL) was exceptionally high, recorded at 79.1% for the Instinct sensor and 80.6% for the Simplera Sync™ sensor. Similarly, HbA1c levels were also closely aligned, with 6.7% for Instinct and 6.8% for Simplera.

Principal Investigator Amir Tirosh, who directs the Division of Endocrinology at Sheba Medical Center, stated, "These results emphasize that the prowess of automated insulin delivery systems is driven primarily by the intelligence of the algorithm. Notably, both sensors demonstrated similar outcomes across critical metrics, reaffirming the versatility and effectiveness of the MiniMed 780G system."

Crucially, the study reported no adverse incidents such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or severe hypoglycemia, showcasing the safety of this approach.

Real-World Evidence Confirms Clinical Data



These promising results from the trial echo earlier findings among a larger demographic, which analyzed over 4,000 U.S. users of the MiniMed 780G system. Data show that individuals transitioning from the Guardian™ 4 sensor to the Instinct sensor also experienced consistent glycemic outcomes. Viral N. Shah, who presented this data at an international diabetes conference, underlined the growing body of evidence supporting the excellence of the MiniMed platform.

With an updated analysis including over 20,000 users, strong consistent metrics have been maintained, proving that the SmartGuard™ algorithm remains central in ensuring effective glucose management. In this newer analysis, Time in Range across users averaged between 74.8% and 76.6%, illustrating the adaptability of the sensors and the algorithm's effectiveness.
