Keystone Welcomes Ron Schnell as Distinguished Technology Fellow

Keystone Strategy, a leading global technology and advisory firm, has made a significant addition to its team by appointing Ron Schnell as a Distinguished Technology Fellow. This strategic move aims to bolster the firm’s Advanced Technology Services services, particularly in the realms of legal matters, data science, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Extensive Experience

Ron Schnell comes with an extensive career spanning over four decades. His expertise lies in software development, source code examination, and providing expert witness testimony in various high-profile technology litigation cases. Schnell's contributions will enhance Keystone's offerings in Information, Strategy, and Risk Regulation (ISRR) as well as Technical Investigations.

Throughout his career, Schnell has held pivotal roles that intersect both the technology industry and litigation consulting. His experience includes serving as a testifying and consulting expert in cases concerning software trade secrets, copyright infringements, and issues surrounding data privacy, which are significantly pertinent to contemporary legal frameworks. His professional repertoire includes his involvement with legal matters regarding the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), and other critical regulations.

A Decisive Role in Legal Technology

One of Schnell's notable accomplishments was his tenure as the General Manager of The Technical Committee, an organization established by the U.S. Courts to oversee Microsoft Corporation’s adherence to antitrust rulings. Recently, his diligent work was acknowledged in the case of Bernadine Griffith v. TikTok, where the court dismissed the class certification, indicating the value of Schnell's expert testimony in influencing judicial decisions.

“Ron's addition to Keystone further illustrates our unique ability to combine seasoned experts with cutting-edge technology to advise our legal and regulatory clients,” remarked Junsu Choi, a partner at Keystone and head of the North America K.ATS team. He emphasized how crucial it is to possess a deep understanding of technology and successfully convey its workings in legal and regulatory contexts.

A Multifaceted Approach

Schnell's background as a programmer and his well-rounded knowledge of AI, cybersecurity, blockchain technologies, and privacy laws will enable him to apply a multifaceted approach to both consultancy and litigation matters. His insights into the complexities of technology will serve not just legal but also regulatory interests, ensuring that Keystone remains at the forefront of technological advancements.

Before joining Keystone, Schnell was with Berkeley Research Group, where he held the role of Managing Director and served as an independent expert. He provided valuable testimony in various federal and state courts, contributing to crucial corporate and board-level decisions. His experience also spans senior leadership roles at major corporations like Equifax and various tech startups.

A Horizon of Opportunities

In his new role, Schnell is enthused about the potential for collaboration with Keystone's talented team of data scientists and AI experts. He recognizes the firm’s innovative approach, integrating economics, technology, and business strategy to achieve outstanding results and enhance its stellar reputation.

“The ability to meld various disciplines is what sets Keystone apart. I look forward to contributing to projects that challenge the norm and drive impactful solutions,” Schnell expressed optimistically.

The K.ATS team, where Schnell will be pivotal, utilizes advanced technologies to create innovative solutions for clients dealing with strategic, legal, and regulatory challenges. With a strong focus on AI, machine learning, and privacy technologies, they analyze extensive datasets and source codes, reinforcing their capacity to handle substantial platforms’ data while maintaining confidentiality and security.

Implications for the Industry

“Ron is not just a highly respected leader; he embodies a rare blend of technical and strategic know-how,” stated Rohit Chatterjee, Senior Partner and Global Head of the K.ATS Team.
