Comerica Bank's Upcoming Shred Day Houston Aims to Secure Documents and Support Community

Shred Day Houston: A Community Initiative by Comerica Bank

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, Comerica Bank will hold its annual Shred Day Houston, an event dedicated to secure document shredding and community support. This initiative aims to help individuals and small businesses protect their sensitive information while simultaneously aiding those in need within the Houston area. Shred Day will take place at Comerica's Mangum Banking Center, located at 2201 Mangum Road, Houston from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Protecting Personal Information

With the rise in identity theft and personal data breaches, protecting sensitive information is crucial. Jason Baker, Comerica Bank's Houston Market President, emphasized the importance of securely shredding documents that contain personal details. "Shredding documents containing personal information is a vital step in preventing identity theft," he stated, underscoring the event's dual purpose: ensuring privacy and safeguarding the environment by recycling shredded materials instead of sending them to landfills.

Shred Day encourages the public—individuals, small business owners, and nonprofits alike—to bring their personal or business paper documents to be destroyed securely. A notable aspect of Shred Day is that all paper will be recycled into pulp, contributing to sustainable practices. There is no limit on the amount of paper participants can bring, accommodating those with large loads at a nearby Iron Mountain facility if necessary.

Shredding Hunger Together

In addition to securing documents, Shred Day Houston also aims to address food insecurity in the community. The Houston Food Bank will be on-site, accepting cash and credit donations along with non-perishable food items. The event not only provides a safe space for document disposal but also fosters a spirit of generosity among participants.

Monetary donations can also be made electronically, making it convenient for those who wish to contribute even before the event. "For more than a decade, our community's generous food and monetary donations have helped the food bank fill its pantries near the end of the school year, which benefits young Houstonians unable to get free meal assistance during summer vacation," Baker highlighted, illustrating the positive impact of community involvement.

Since its inception in 2013, Shred Day Houston has made a significant difference, safely destroying over a million pounds of paper and providing over 410,000 meals to local residents in need. The initiative exemplifies how collaborative community efforts can bring about substantial change, ensuring privacy protection while confronting hunger in the area.
