Upcoming Mountaineering Trainer Workshops
The Japan Outdoor Training Association (JOTA) has announced its upcoming workshops for aspiring mountaineering trainers, set to take place during the fall of 2026 and winter of 2027. With a focus on gaining the JOTA-OMT certification, participants will learn a broad spectrum of skills from fundamental knowledge about mountains to training techniques for physical preparation. These workshops promise to be an enriching experience for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Workshop Overview
Participants are invited to choose between two sessions:

Session 1: Nagano

Session 2: Tokyo

Location: National Olympic Memorial Youth Center, Shibuya, Tokyo

Note: Full participation for all three days is required.
Both venues are popular among outdoor training enthusiasts, making them ideal locations to learn amidst stunning natural surroundings including views of the Northern Alps at the Nagano venue.
Participation Details
- - Eligibility: Both experienced trainers and newcomers can apply. No previous experience is necessary to enroll.
- - Cost: The total cost for participation is ¥55,000 (tax included). This fee includes workshop materials, qualification exam fees, certification fees, and commemorative items. Note that an additional renewal fee is required after certification is obtained.
- - Registration Deadline: Applications must be submitted at least seven days before the workshop begins. Each session has a limited capacity of 20 participants.

What is JOTA-OMT?
JOTA-OMT (Outdoor Mountain Trainer) is a certification issued by the Japan Outdoor Training Association, aimed at individuals who wish to instruct activities like hiking and mountaineering. Participants will learn about foundational training theories related to hiking, mountain knowledge, outdoor environmental theories, and marketing concepts essential for effective leadership in outdoor activities.
This workshop has previously attracted a diverse range of participants, including personal trainers, team trainers, climbing guides, travel company staff, doctors, physical therapists, and outdoor enthusiasts—thus creating a vibrant community of qualified outdoor trainers across Japan.
