Hublot and Daniel Arsham Present the MP-17 Arsham Splash
Hublot, the pioneering Swiss luxury watchmaker, has introduced its latest creation in collaboration with renowned American artist Daniel Arsham – the MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire. This remarkable timepiece follows the success of the MP-16 Arsham Droplet, a transformable pocket watch, and continues to challenge conventional watch design through its inspiration drawn from the fluid dynamics of water, organic shapes, and transparency.
The MP-17 Arsham Splash seamlessly merges Hublot’s signature Fusion Art concept with Arsham’s unique vision of fictional archaeology, redefining contemporary objects as ancient artifacts and blurring the lines between past, present, and future. Designed as Arsham’s first wristwatch for Hublot, this piece serves as a wearable sculpture that reflects the artist's creative direction in each curve.
Design and Features
At 42mm, the compact case size is made possible by integrating Hublot’s new, internally developed Meca-10 movement, which is a smaller manual-wind movement visible through both the watch’s sapphire dial and case back. The materials utilized, such as titanium, rubber, and sapphire crystal, embody the essence of Fusion Art and have laid the perfect foundation for sculpting the watch's organic forms, inspired by the flow of water.
The most striking feature is a splash-shaped open aperture on the dial that evolves from the droplets that inspired the previous model, the MP-16. Arsham’s concept of time significantly shapes his design approach. In his 2016 TED talk, he stated, “My work is about distorting time. It’s about not being able to know for certain whether an object is from the past or the future.” This idea was expressed in the form of the MP-16 Arsham Droplet, but the MP-17 emphasizes how time leaves its mark. With fluid lines in the case design, the splash-shaped aperture, and transparent sapphire components, it perfectly combines Arsham's artistic vision with Hublot's Meca-10 movement, fusing concept and performance into a highly wearable design.
At first glance, the watch may seem to diverge from Hublot’s usual forms, yet upon closer inspection, it reveals all iconic elements, including the six H-shaped screws on the bezel and case back, distinctive lugs at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, and the titanium H-shaped deployant buckle. The hour and minute hands, hour markers, five-minute markers, the small second hand positioned at 9 o'clock, and the power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock all feature Arsham's signature green hue.
An Artful Union of Time and Craftsmanship
The Hublot MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire transcends the realm of a mere watch; it embodies a fusion of haute horology and contemporary art. It challenges traditional materials and forms while inviting both collectors and art enthusiasts to experience time through Arsham’s unique fluid perspective. Julien Tornare, CEO of Hublot, expressed, “Working with Daniel Arsham has opened up new avenues for design and perception. The MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire marks an exciting next chapter in our partnership with our ambassador, Daniel Arsham. It is a testament to Hublot's Fusion Art, blending haute horology with art to create a visually stunning watch that pushes the boundaries of innovation.”
Arsham elaborated, “This collaboration with Hublot explores the fluidity of time through a case inspired by the perfect geometry of a drop of water, created with Hublot’s Meca-10 movement. The watch’s transparent structure captures the clarity and motion of water, suspended, precise, and always in flow.”

About Hublot
Founded in 1980, Hublot made waves in the luxury watch market by merging gold cases with rubber straps, changing the perception of luxury. Named after the French term for “porthole,” the brand's signature bezel design with visible screws became a statement of innovation.
In 2005, Hublot elevated its creative philosophy with the iconic Big Bang design, which won the ‘Best Design’ award at the Geneva Grand Prix d’Horlogerie. The brand continually reinvents itself while adhering to the philosophy of Fusion Art across all collections. The Big Bang has become an iconic timepiece of the 21st century, redefining the geometry of time.
The essence of fusion is intrinsically woven throughout Hublot’s creations.
