SmartSens Unveils Cutting-Edge Automotive Imaging Solutions at AutoSens Europe 2026
SmartSens Showcases Automotive Imaging Innovations at AutoSens Europe 2026
From September 22 to 24, 2026, the bustling city of Barcelona, Spain, served as the backdrop for one of the most pivotal events in the automotive tech industry: AutoSens Europe 2026. Held at La Farga de L'Hospitalet, this conference provided an ideal platform for industry leaders to showcase their latest advancements and forge important partnerships. Among the notable exhibitors was SmartSens, a company recognized for its innovative contributions to CMOS image sensors, which ranks third globally in market deliveries.
At this year’s AutoSens, SmartSens captured the attention of attendees with its comprehensive portfolio of automotive-grade imaging sensors and solutions. The company’s offerings support a variety of advanced vehicle applications, including forward-facing cameras, 360-degree surround-view systems, driver monitoring systems (DMS), and occupant monitoring systems (OMS). They integrate cutting-edge imaging technologies with powerful data processing capabilities, a combination essential for the progression of intelligent driving technologies.
During the conference, SmartSens’s Automotive Business Group engaged in intense discussions regarding product offerings and business development opportunities with numerous global partners. Furthermore, Toby Zou, co-general manager of the Automotive Business Group, delivered a keynote speech at a technical forum coinciding with the exhibition. His insights underscored the importance of innovation in an industry that is rapidly evolving to embrace automation and alternative driving solutions.
SmartSens also conducted live demonstrations of their integrated forward-facing camera module solutions. These modules, equipped with the M2 System on Chip (SoC) from their subsidiary Flyingchip, made a significant impression on the audience. The solutions incorporate the 8.3 MP SC860AT automotive sensor for front imaging and the SC233AT for DMS, thereby ensuring that vehicles maintain a high level of vigilance even in challenging lighting conditions.
The performance of SmartSens sensors promises consistent image quality and reliable assessments across side, rear, and internal OMS cameras, as well as camera-based rear-view systems. Their OMS solutions combine the 5-megapixel SC533AT image sensor with the M1 SoC from Flyingchip. This combination offers exceptional results characterized by high sensitivity, low noise levels, and excellent shutter performance, thus ensuring sharp and accurate imaging that is crucial for identifying the presence of passengers, detecting pets, and recognizing forgotten items within vehicles. Moreover, it supports functionalities for in-vehicle photography and video conferencing.
In addition, SmartSens unveiled a 360-degree imaging solution based on the 3MP SC360AT sensor. Designed to excel in extreme lighting conditions, this solution significantly enhances the safety and comfort of parking and overtaking maneuvers by effectively suppressing overexposure caused by oncoming headlights while preserving shadow details.
On the second day of the event, Toby Zou further engaged the audience, presenting on the need for innovative advancements in high dynamic range (HDR) performance and resolution within automotive image sensors. Highlighting the ongoing growth of vehicles with alternative powertrains and the automotive industry’s progression toward levels 3 and 4 automation, Zou emphasized that the imaging performance of CMOS sensors becomes a focal point for system perception in complex scenarios. His discussion delved into pixel architecture, HDR, global shutter technology, and system integration, illustrating how a closer union between imaging and data processing can drive automotive imaging applications forward.
Zou presented SmartSens’s portfolio of CMOS image sensors as an integrated platform poised to enhance future vehicle perception applications. By unifying flexible sensor integration with advanced imaging capabilities, SmartSens aims to provide automakers and Tier-1 suppliers access to versatile and reliable imaging solutions tailored for mass production in advanced driving systems. With their pioneering contributions, SmartSens continues to pave the way for the next generation of automotive technologies, reinforcing their commitment to innovation and quality in the realm of vehicle imaging.
As AutoSens Europe 2026 concluded, it was apparent that SmartSens not only showcased their current technological achievements but also positioned themselves as a key player in the ongoing evolution of automotive safety and intelligence.
