Kempinski Hotels Takes Charge of Nymphenburg Palace
In a significant move that signals a new chapter in luxury hospitality, Kempinski Hotels announced the signing of a groundbreaking agreement for the management of the Royal Residence at Nymphenburg Palace. This agreement, made in partnership with His Royal Highness Prince Luitpold von Bayern and the Bavarian royal family, grants Kempinski exclusive management privileges which will commence on March 1, 2025.
Barbara Muckermann, the CEO of Kempinski Hotels, expressed the company's honor at taking on this prestigious property: "We are genuinely honored to take over the management of the Royal Residence at Nymphenburg Palace, a place steeped in rich history and renowned for its exceptional service. This partnership presents a thrilling opportunity for Kempinski to elevate our guest experiences at one of Europe's most prestigious addresses. We aim to uphold Nymphenburg’s legacy while introducing innovative luxury, personalized service, and hospitality finesse to our discerning clientele worldwide.”
Strategically located at the intersection of urban and pastoral settings, the Royal Residence offers the most exclusive accommodations in Munich. Spanning three levels and measuring a total of 836 square meters, it boasts four bedrooms, seven bathrooms, three lounges, a dining room, a kitchen, a fitness center, a meeting space, a home cinema, and a wine cellar. Outdoors, guests can relax in a private garden featuring a majolica terrace offering seating for up to 100 guests.
Beyond providing an unparalleled suite experience, the Royal Residence serves as a showcase for Nymphenburg porcelain. This includes art pieces, animal figurines, and tableware crafted in the local facilities, alongside bespoke interior details specially designed for the guesthouse. Distinguished works from noteworthy international artists like Damien Hirst and Nick Knight are prominently displayed throughout the residence, allowing guests to appreciate exquisite craftsmanship and invaluable art during their stay.
Founded in 1747 by Maximilian III, Elector of Bavaria, Nymphenburg Porcelain manufactures luxury tableware which has been historically significant. Royal patronage and the artistry of craftsmen such as Joseph Jakob Ringler and sculptor Franz Anton Bustelli have evolved its fine porcelain production over the centuries, leading to its recognition as one of the oldest porcelain manufacturers in the world. Each piece remains handcrafted by skilled artisans dedicated to superior quality and intricate detailing.
Kempinski's management of the Royal Residence at Nymphenburg Palace further solidifies its longstanding partnership with the Bavarian royal family. For instance, the luxurious Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich hotel was established in 1858 by the prince’s great-great-grandfather, King Maximilian II.
Prince Luitpold von Bayern stated, "We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our longstanding collaboration with Kempinski, particularly with the Vier Jahreszeiten Hotel in Munich. As a hotel that has welcomed royal family guests adjacent to the Residence, it has long been a benchmark of luxury hospitality. The Nymphenburg Room at Schwarzreiter restaurant exemplifies the finest porcelain art alongside exceptional cuisine. We are now embarking on a new chapter of collaboration, as Kempinski takes responsibility for managing the Royal Residence — a stunning venue within the porcelain factory complex at the northern roundabout of Nymphenburg Palace. This site is designed for guests who expect the highest cultural standards to be upheld. This partnership will usher in a new era of exceptional hospitality in the ultra-luxury sector for Kempinski.”
Reservations for the Royal Residence at Nymphenburg Palace will be open starting March 1, 2025. Stays will provide guests with complete access to the exclusive 836-square-meter villa, a daily breakfast, round-trip airport transfers, 24/7 butler service, and a chauffeur-driven limousine for the duration of the stay. Additionally, the Royal Residence is available for exclusive weddings, private meetings, and events, with rates starting at €25,000 (approximately $26,250) per night.
