Exciting Guest Workshops Announced at Cocoon Actors Studio's Third Session

The Cocoon Actors Studio (CAS), initiated by Bunkamura, is set to kick off its third session in April 2026. This program not only features regular lessons from 8 esteemed faculty members, including Bunkamura's resident director, Suzuki Matsuo, but also introduces special workshops conducted by dynamic guest instructors. Recently, three exceptional guest speakers have been confirmed for this year’s special workshops: Shintaro Hirahara, John Haider, and KEN THE 390.

Guest Instructor Details

The first workshop will be led by Shintaro Hirahara, known for his vast expertise in contemporary dance, building on his foundation in classical ballet and Hip Hop. A versatile artist, Hirahara not only performs but also choreographs and composes for the stage. He currently leads his own dance company, OrganWorks, and has collaborated with various artists across both domestic and international platforms, contributing to a plethora of dance works.

Following him is John Haider, an emerging director making his Japanese directorial debut with 'Glengarry Glen Ross' in November 2026. Haider has built his career in prestigious theaters like the National Theatre and Royal Court Theatre in London, collaborating with renowned directors like Howard Davies and Michael Grandage. His artistic vision and experience are set to provide invaluable insights in the workshop setting.

Last but not least, KEN THE 390 will take center stage in October. Originating from Machida, Tokyo, he is a notable rapper and music producer whose career began in freestyle battles. His first album, 'Prologue,' debuted in 2006, and he has since released multiple original albums while actively engaging as a music supervisor for various major theatrical productions. He has gained fame as a regular judge on the popular television show 'Freesytle Dungeon' and continues to make a mark in the Hip Hop space.

These guest workshops will equip participants with essential skills to enhance their expressiveness as actors across diverse genres.

Future Developments

It's exciting to note that starting in 2027, the Cocoon Actors Studio will be officially renamed the 'Tokyu Foundation Cocoon Actors Studio.' Enrollment for the 2027 session will commence in August. This shift shows the commitment of the program toward cultivating the next generation of acting talents.

The announcement of guest instructors is just the beginning, as there’s a wide array of workshops planned, enriching the students' learning journey. The schedule for these sessions will also include leading industry figures so that students are exposed to varied perspectives, enriching their skills and understanding of the performing arts.
