Warehouse Workers at UNFI Secure Major Contract and Wage Increases After Strike Threat
A Historic Milestone for UNFI Warehouse Workers
In a significant victory for labor rights, over 200 warehouse employees at United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI), represented by Teamsters Local 769, have successfully ratified their first-ever contract following a credible strike threat. This moment not only showcases the power of collective action but also highlights the importance of union representation in improving workers' conditions.
The recently ratified five-year agreement includes a staggering 31% wage increase across its duration, enhanced benefits, and robust workplace protections. Vedjo Williamceau, a UNFI warehouse worker who actively participated in the negotiations, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "Ratifying our first Teamsters contract is a proud moment for every worker in this warehouse. We've shown what can be accomplished when workers unite."

Under this agreement, Teamsters at the Pompano Beach facility will not only enjoy wage increases but also gain access to Teamsters health care and the Teamsters Western Conference Pension Plan. Long-term job security is another critical aspect, ensuring just cause protections and solid grievance and arbitration procedures for employees.
Joshua Zivalich, President of Teamsters Local 769, praised the solidarity among workers, emphasizing that this agreement reflects the achievements of UNFI Teamsters nationwide. “Contracts like this one make a real difference for our members,” he noted, underscoring the strength built by union members across the company.
The Wider Context: A Growing Union Movement
The unionization efforts at UNFI's Pompano Beach facility are part of a larger trend within the company. Since 2022, the Teamsters have organized over 3,500 workers at UNFI, expanding the union’s membership to more than 5,500 nationally. As Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, remarked, “UNFI recognized the power of a credible Teamsters strike threat and didn’t want to test their luck.
