True Food Kitchen Files Chapter 11 to Reinvent Its Future and Strengthen Operations

True Food Kitchen Follows Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Path for Future Success

In a bold move aimed at ensuring its longevity, True Food Kitchen has initiated voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings, with plans to emerge stronger and more focused on its core mission of wellness-driven dining. The company filed its petitions alongside certain affiliates in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, announcing this strategic decision on October 5, 2026.

CEO Jeff Chandler expressed optimism about the reorganization, stating, "True Food Kitchen is a pioneering brand with a distinctive position in wellness-driven dining, a loyal community of guests, and a mission that is more relevant than ever." He emphasized that this restructuring would simplify business operations and sharpen the focus on delivering nutritious food combined with genuine hospitality.

As part of the restructuring, True Food Kitchen made the difficult decision to close 12 of its restaurants, which served their last meals on October 4. However, the company reassures its customers that 34 restaurants across 14 states remain open and ready to serve their loyal guests. This decision, while necessary for financial health, has not been taken lightly; True Food Kitchen is committed to treating affected team members with dignity and respect during this challenging transition.

The Chapter 11 filing allows True Food Kitchen to pursue a Court-supervised process aimed at identifying a long-term partner aligned with its mission to enhance the brand's future. Such transactions will hinge on court approval and standard conditional agreements. In terms of sustaining operations during this period, True Food Kitchen has secured about $20 million in debtor-in-possession financing from HumanCo TFK IV, pending court approval. This funding, coupled with operational cash flow, will equip the business to navigate through the restructuring process.
