Transforming Prescription Management in Pharmacies
In a groundbreaking development, NeoX Corporation, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has announced that its AI-OCR service, 'Yakushimaru Kenta', will now support the reading of electronic prescriptions. This advancement comes as a collaboration with WEMEX Inc., a subsidiary of PHC Holdings, also headquartered in Tokyo. The integration of this service into the 'Pharnes' series of pharmacy systems marks a significant milestone in the push for digitized healthcare solutions.
The Push for Electronic Prescriptions
The electronic prescription system is part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's initiative to promote digital transformation (DX) in healthcare, aiming to create a national medical information platform. With the new capability, 'Yakushimaru Kenta' will be able to read exchange numbers from both paper and electronic prescriptions issued by medical institutions. This allows pharmacies to efficiently obtain necessary information through Pharnes' electronic prescription management services.
Previously, when receiving compatible paper prescriptions with exchange numbers, pharmacists had to use handheld scanners provided with Pharnes to read QR codes. Now, with the new implementation, scanning a paper prescription using 'Yakushimaru Kenta' will automatically import prescription information, streamlining the prescription acceptance process.
Note: This feature is applicable only for paper prescriptions with exchange numbers that support electronic prescriptions, and requires the 'electronic prescription management software' from Pharnes.
Enhancing Pharmacy Efficiency Through AI
'Yakushimaru Kenta' has been deployed in over 7,000 pharmacies, achieving a remarkable milestone of reading over 100 million prescriptions to date. Recognizing the complexities and variability in paper formats and writing styles across pharmacies, NeoX has continuously worked to address these challenges, improving reading accuracy and reducing input burdens constantly.
Through regular feedback from pharmacy staff and extensive analysis of operational data, NeoX also launched 'Smart Pharmacy', a comprehensive solution that supports the entire sequence of pharmacy operations including acceptance, patient information management, dispensing, inventory management, and call systems. This integrated approach enhances accuracy and safety in pharmacy operations, contributing to increased efficiency across the board.
Future Endeavors of NeoX
Looking ahead, NeoX is committed to leveraging feedback from implementation sites and learning data to further alleviate operational burdens in pharmacies. This dedication to innovation ensures that pharmacy staff can focus more on patient care while relying on advanced AI solutions to enhance their workflow.
