Hanwha Power Systems Achieves Milestone with AaP for LNG Carrier Retrofit to Ammonia Fuel

Hanwha Power Systems has reached an important milestone by obtaining Approval in Principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its innovative ammonia fuel gas turbine conversion design targeted at 174K LNG carriers. This significant advancement, revealed during GASTECH 2025, underscores the growing potential of ammonia as a clean energy source in the maritime industry. The vital joint development project between Hanwha and ABS commenced on August 13, 2025, focusing on the feasibility of retrofitting existing LNG carriers to utilize ammonia as fuel.
