SENS Introduces PowerCab2 to Enhance Power Architecture in Data Centers

Revolutionizing Data Center Power Solutions with SENS PowerCab2

Stored Energy Systems (SENS) is making waves in the data center industry with the introduction of PowerCab2, a pioneering solution aimed at transforming DC power architecture for gigawatt-scale data centers. Set to be showcased at the upcoming Data Center World POWER event from September 21-23 in Dallas, Texas, this integrated DC power system represents a significant leap forward in how critical power functions are managed in these massive facilities.

The Need for Change

As data center campuses continue to grow in scale and capacity, with many reaching gigawatt levels, the traditional methods of managing DC power are becoming increasingly inefficient. According to Eric Solanyk, Vice President of Mission Critical Power Systems at SENS, the existing infrastructures often consume valuable space that could be better utilized.

“In an era where efficiency is paramount, our PowerCab platform is a game-changer, consolidating multiple DC power functions into a single, factory-engineered system,” Solanyk noted. By adopting this innovative architecture, data centers can not only save space but also significantly reduce overall project costs.

Key Features of PowerCab2

PowerCab2 replaces the conventional battery room and hundreds of individual DC power components with a compact and factory-tested unit. Its design offers several advantages:
  • - Reduction in Footprint: It is estimated that PowerCab2 can decrease the footprint of Power Distribution Centers (PDCs) and electrical houses (E-houses) by 20% or more.
  • - Cost Efficiency: With an installed cost of approximately $850 per square foot, data centers can anticipate capital savings ranging from $20 million to $80 million when migrating to this new power solution. This is based on the elimination of over 300 square feet of dedicated battery-room space per structure.
  • - Scalability and Reliability: SENS provides support for various battery chemistries, along with configurations that ensure redundancy and reliability, key factors for mission-critical operations.

Presentation at Data Center World POWER

Attendees at the Data Center World POWER event will have the opportunity to view PowerCab2 at Booth #211. SENS engineers will be available to discuss the benefits of this system, including tailored footprint and capital savings models for specific designs of PDCs and E-houses. This personalized approach will help potential clients understand the extensive cost advantages and operational efficiencies that PowerCab2 can provide.

With around eighty percent of hyperscale and colocation data centers in the United States already utilizing SENS’s DC power technology, its presence at this event signals not just a moment of innovation for SENS, but a potential shift in the industry standards for data center power solutions.

Conclusion

The introduction of PowerCab2 by SENS is more than just a new product—it symbolizes a future where data centers can operate on a larger scale without sacrificing space or budget. As SENS continues to break ground in engineered power solutions, the industry will be watching closely to see how PowerCab2 will redefine the parameters of critical DC power management in data centers across the globe.
