Exclusive Live Coverage of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Election 2025 on Niconico

On June 22, 2025, at 19:50 JST, Niconico will broadcast a special live program titled "激戦!首都サバイバル決戦LIVE 〜開票と同時に始まる、最もディープな都政論議〜【都議選2025開票特番】" on its streaming service. This special program will focus on the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election results, showcasing a deep discussion regarding urban governance and future prospects for the city.

Every four years, Tokyo holds its Assembly election, and this year records the highest number of candidates since the current assembly size was established in 1997, with a total of 295 candidates. Notably, a record 99 of these candidates are women, reflecting a growing trend towards inclusivity in political representation. As this election coincides with the upcoming Upper House elections, it has drawn considerable attention, seen as a critical pre-election battle ground.

Niconico aims to elevate public interest in politics and voting through its initiatives. On June 14, an interview was conducted with representatives from 19 political parties, which was streamed as a special program to provide clear insights into their policies and positions. The live broadcast on June 22 will feature real-time vote counting updates and interviews with party representatives immediately after the vote counts. Leading the discussion will be well-known figures such as freelance writer and program host Rinji Hatakeyama, author and anti-poverty network organizer Karin Amamiya, Okawa Kogyo president Yutaka Okawa, and journalist and author Eito Suzuki. Together, they will tackle pressing issues that Tokyo currently faces, including rising costs of living, declining birth rates, education challenges, disaster preparedness, poverty among youth and women, and welfare for senior citizens. The discussion will also extend to the implications these elections may have on Tokyo's future and the upcoming Upper House election this summer.

Prior to the broadcast, users can submit questions for the guests, creating an interactive platform for engaging dialogue. The program will be accessible not only through Niconico but also via the official Niconico News YouTube channel and their official X account.
