Okayama University's 'Photon Creation Nexus' Strengthens Multidisciplinary Research Collaboration

Okayama University's 8th Meeting of the Photon Creation Nexus

On June 16, 2026, Okayama University hosted the 8th meeting of the 'Photon Creation Nexus' at the KibiNove Co-Creation Innovation Lab on its Tsushima campus. Spearheaded by President Yasuyuki Nasu, this initiative aims to foster a collaborative research environment utilizing light as a medium across various disciplines.

The primary objective of this meeting was to strengthen partnerships among universities selected under the J-PEAKS program, focused on enhancing core and distinct research universities. The event featured multiple guest speakers, including faculty and researchers from both Okayama University and external institutions, who presented their findings and participated in engaging discussions. Participants comprised a diverse group of 25 individuals, including faculty members, students, and industry-academia coordinators.

The meeting commenced with opening remarks by Professor Hiroaki Misawa, from the Institute for Advanced Research, who introduced the topic of quantum coherence and its synergies with artificial photosynthesis and high-sensitivity spectroscopy. Following this, esteemed speakers such as Professor Akihiro Kofu from Tokushima University presented on 'Understanding Electron Movement at Nanomaterial Interfaces through Ultrahigh-Speed Spectroscopy'.
Professor Yoichiro Hosokawa of Nara Institute of Science and Technology discussed 'Fusion of Light and AI in Biomedical Research', while Professor Yasuyuki Tsuboi and Professor Chie Hosokawa, both from Osaka Metropolitan University, spoke on topics like light manipulation of nanomaterials and laser perturbation of cellular functions, respectively.

After the presentations, the floor was opened for a Q&A session where robust discussions were held between speakers and participants. The free forum that followed allowed attendees to explore new collaborative research opportunities in areas like ultrahigh-speed spectroscopy, theoretical analysis, nanofabrication, and biomedical measurements based on the research seeds presented.

To enhance networking, an exchange event was held post-meeting, fostering deeper interactions among participants. The 'Photon Creation Nexus' is envisioned as an inclusive hub for researchers eager to explore new frontiers and interdisciplinary connections. Moving forward, we encourage continued interest and collaboration in these endeavors.

This initiative reflects Okayama University’s commitment to openness and community engagement as a leading research institution dedicated to the future of innovation and sustainability. Keep an eye on upcoming activities of Okayama University, recognized as a core and distinctive research university under the J-PEAKS initiative.
