SEGA Launches an Inspiring Project for Young Athletes

In an exciting move towards supporting the future of sports, SEGA, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has officially announced the launch of the SONIC’S RISING ATHLETES project. This initiative is designed to empower young children aspiring to be professional athletes, helping them cultivate not only the courage to challenge themselves but also the resilience to face their difficulties. The project aims to create an inclusive environment where various sports are supported and celebrated.

A vital aspect of this initiative is the upcoming SONIC CUP 2025, which will take place on November 2nd and November 22nd, focusing on the U-15 generation of skateboarders. Collaborating with the Japan Skateboard Promotion Federation, SEGA is proud to present this thrilling competition, providing important opportunities for young skaters while broadening the community and appeal of skateboarding.

The SONIC CUP 2025 offers young talents a platform to showcase their skills and connect with their peers. The top two skaters from both Tokyo and Osaka will be awarded an exciting training tour to Los Angeles, consisting of 5 nights and 7 days of immersive experiences. Participants can look forward to impressive demonstrations from celebrated skaters who represented Japan at the Paris Olympics, including Yūji Nagahara and Hinano Kusaki. Alongside them, rising stars like Oto Sasaki, Kyōnosuke Yamashita, and Sōta Tomikawa will also be performing their tricks, promising an exhilarating event for both competitors and spectators alike.

To encourage greater participation, the event will also feature a beginner-friendly skate experience and instructional sessions led by accomplished instructors, making it accessible to everyone. Whether you’re an aspiring skater or someone simply looking to experience the thrill of skateboarding, there will be something for everyone.
