Delectrik Systems Launches India’s Pioneer Utility Scale Flow Battery Project



In a significant move towards renewable energy, Delectrik Systems has announced its plan to roll out India’s first utility-scale Vanadium Redox Flow Battery project, boasting an impressive capacity of 100 MWH. This initiative marks a crucial step forward for energy storage technology in the country and is poised to drive the integration of renewable resources into the energy grid effectively.

A Game-Changer for India’s Renewable Energy Landscape


Delectrik Systems has partnered with Bondada Engineering Limited, a swiftly growing player in infrastructure solutions, to secure this project, which has been awarded by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited. As a fully owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, NTPC is recognized as India’s largest integrated power utility, with a mission to ramp up its total installed capacity from over 90 GW to 149 GW by 2032. The company aims to incorporate a noteworthy 60 GW from renewable energy by that time.

Technical Innovations in Flow Battery Systems


The upcoming flow battery system will be developed using Delectrik's unique non-containerized architecture, specially designed to cater to large commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications. The deployment site is set at Khavda Solar Park, which is projected to evolve into the world's largest renewable energy park, with a generation capacity of 30 GW anticipated by 2029. This innovative setup follows Delectrik's previous success, where a smaller 3 MWH unit was installed at Greater Noida in collaboration with NTPC.

A Milestone for Energy Security and Sustainability


According to Dr. Vishal Mittal, the founder and CEO of Delectrik, this project is not only a landmark achievement for the company but also for the country. He remarked, "This will be the first utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in India that is entirely designed, engineered, and manufactured locally. It represents a paradigm shift from traditional lithium-ion technology to safer, sustainable alternatives like flow batteries."

In alignment with the global trend of valuing sustainability, Delectrik is also targeting to secure orders for at least a GWH of flow battery capacity within the next 12 months, expanding its footprint to regions like Australia, ASEAN countries, and parts of Africa.

Vertical Integration and Future Prospects


To enhance its operations, Delectrik has established two wholly owned subsidiaries: Delectrik Resources Pvt Ltd (DRPL) and Delectrik Esaas Pvt Ltd (DEPL). DRPL aims to delve into the upstream production of Vanadium Oxide, including complete beneficiation and asset management, while DEPL plans to offer energy storage solutions as a service, particularly catering to commercial and industrial customers, including data centers.

Long duration energy storage plays a pivotal role in the seamless integration of large-scale renewable energy into the grid.
