Empowering Detroit's Youth: Digital Beats & Skills Workshop Unveiled by Human-I-T

Human-I-T is stepping up to bridge the digital divide in Detroit by launching its innovative Digital Beats & Skills Workshop. This exciting initiative is designed to equip young people with the skills and tools they need to forge successful careers in the music industry.

The inaugural workshop is set to take place at Human-I-T's Digital Equity Center on 7 Mile road on Wednesday, December 4th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. It's open to youth aged 13-19, creating a direct pathway for aspiring musicians in the community to engage with their passion for music.

A highlight of this workshop is its feature instructor, P.L. aka Terry Fox, a legendary music producer known for his contributions to FOX Sports, NBC's NBA broadcasts, and the NFL Network's 'Gameday' theme. With his wealth of experience and success, P.L. will share valuable insights and techniques that have defined his career, presenting attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from a seasoned professional in the field.

Graeme Jackson, Marketing and Content Manager at Human-I-T, emphasized the organization’s commitment to digital equity and its mission to open doors for the young people of Detroit. “We aim to create numerous opportunities within the metro area. The Digital Beats and Skills Workshop is a stepping stone towards sparking creativity and providing young adults with viable pathways in their future careers,” he stated.

In collaboration with Class Act Detroit, a nonprofit organization recognized for its dedication to empowering youth through music and arts education, the workshop promises to engage and challenge all participants. Rashad Dobbins, the Executive Director of Class Act Detroit, whose work spans popular projects like The Walking Dead and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, is passionate about building community through music.

The curriculum for the workshop covers essential topics, including:
  • - Introduction to Beat Making: A hands-on session designed to help participants understand the components of beat production.
  • - Overview of Hip-Hop Production: Exploring the genre's evolution and its cultural significance.
  • - History and Impact of Detroit Hip-Hop: Celebrating the roots of hip-hop in Detroit, encouraging a sense of pride in local culture.

To ensure equitable access, every participant will receive a free Apple iPad loaded with music production software. This initiative aims to provide the necessary technology for attendees to continue their artistic endeavors long after the workshop has concluded. With spots available on a limited basis, it’s forecasted that interest will surge, filling up quickly.

This workshop represents more than just a learning experience; it is an investment in the creative potential of Detroit's youth, a chance to foster innovation, and an opening for future artists, innovators, and musicians to make their mark not just in their city, but in the music world at large.

Through such impactful initiatives, Human-I-T continues to exemplify its commitment to ensuring that all young people can harness the power of technology, creativity, and culture, driving change in their communities for years to come.
