Tour Highlights



1. Join Professor Hidehiko Tsuji:
Guided by National Astronomical Observatory Associate Professor Hidehiko Tsuji, a recipient of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award, participants will engage in expert commentary on various astronomical facilities. This is a rare opportunity to ask questions during meals and travel, adding a personal touch to your learning experience.

2. Visit Iconic Astronomical Facilities:
The tour includes visits to three significant sites supporting Japanese astronomy:
- Okayama Astrophysical Observatory: Explore a facility that has led Japan's astronomical research for years.
- Kyoto University Okayama Observatory: Experience the impressive Seimei Telescope, one of the largest in Asia. Listen to its history and grandeur firsthand.
- Bisei Astronomical Observatory: Learn about Japan's first publicly accessible observatory and participate in actual stargazing at night.

3. Participate in a Contributory Learning Experience:
A portion of your participation fee will be donated through Waseda University Academic Solutions to the National Astronomical Observatory. This initiative supports the training of future astronomers and the advancement of science. Please note that individual tax-deductible donations cannot be processed.

  • - Dates: October 18-20, 2025
  • - Instructor: Professor Hidehiko Tsuji - Associate Professor at the National Astronomical Observatory and the Graduate University for Advanced Studies. Formerly, he was the representative of the Astronomical Tourism Promotion Association and is a tourism ambassador for Omachi, Nagano.
  • - Accommodation: Hotel Gran Coco-e Kurashiki
  • - Participation Fee: 125,400 yen (includes taxes). This tour is designed for adults, as no child pricing is available.

Itinerary Overview:



Day 1: October 18
  • - 13:30: Depart from JR Shin-Kurashiki Station
  • - Visit Bisei Astronomical Observatory and Space Guard Center
  • - Dine at Hoshi no Sato (Dinner)
  • - 17:35: Explore Bisei Observatory
  • - 21:00: Arrival at the hotel

Day 2: October 19
  • - Morning: Astronomy-related lecture at the hotel or nearby locations
  • - 11:30: Lunch at Yuunagi Kurashiki Main Store
  • - 13:15: Visit Okayama Astronomy Museum (includes a viewing of the 188 cm reflecting telescope)
  • - 17:10: Dinner at Kamogata-tei
  • - 19:00: Nighttime activity at Bisei Observatory (observatory session or discussion)
  • - 21:50: Return to hotel

Day 3: October 20
  • - Check-out from the hotel (approximately 5 minutes walking to JR Kurashiki Station)

Food & Support


  • - Includes two breakfasts, one lunch and two dinners.
  • - A tour guide will accompany participants throughout the trip.
  • - Participants should gather at JR Shin-Kurashiki Station and will disband at the hotel. Dress warmly and prepare for variable weather conditions while enjoying stargazing activities in the evening.
