EIPA Announces Successful Interconnection Test Results for Digital Invoices

EIPA Publishes Results of Third Interconnection Test for Digital Invoices

The E-Invoice Promotion Association (EIPA), led by TKC Corporation, has officially released the results of the third interconnection test conducted among its members. This initiative aims to enhance the interoperability of the Peppol e-invoice system, which serves as a critical international standard for exchanging electronic documents like invoices over a network.

Understanding Peppol

Peppol, or Pan-European Public Procurement Online, has gained traction not just in European countries but also in regions such as Singapore and Australia. The digital invoices, known as Peppol e-invoices, are becoming increasingly important for international transactions, providing a seamless solution for businesses around the globe.

Latest Test Results

In order to ensure that various service providers can comfortably adopt digital invoices, it is essential to confirm that invoice data can be accurately transferred between different vendor systems. To this end, from January 2026 onward, several certified Peppol Service Providers in Japan, all members of EIPA, collaborated to test interconnectivity among their systems as part of this third trial.

The test involved a total of 546 interconnections among different vendors, with all tests achieving success. This success ensures a smooth data exchange process for firms looking to implement the Peppol e-invoice system across multiple platforms.

Test Versions Used

  • - Peppol BIS Standard Invoice JP PINT Version 1.1.2: This version corresponds to the “qualified invoices” under Japan's Consumption Tax Act.
  • - JP BIS Self Billing Invoice Version 1.1.2: This version complies with the “purchase statements” also under the Consumption Tax Act.

It’s noteworthy that Thomson Reuters also participated in the test with an earlier version, successfully transitioning to the latest version by March 2026.

Importance of Interconnectivity Testing

The Peppol e-invoice system provides a vital framework for businesses to engage in digital transactions with domestic and international partners. With a focus on creating a paperless invoicing system, this initiative enables automation and efficiency in billing, payments, and record-keeping, significantly improving productivity for businesses.

For Peppol e-invoices to be effective, fluid communication of invoice data between various systems and services is crucial. EIPA aims to facilitate an environment where businesses can confidently adopt this technology, reinforcing the necessity for interoperability checks.

As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting Peppol e-invoice systems in Japan, EIPA plans to continue collaborating with certified service providers to ensure connectivity and disseminate relevant information necessary for the system's widespread adoption.
