New Leadership at Blue Shield of California to Enhance Pharmacy Programs for Members
Blue Shield of California has announced a significant leadership change with the appointment of Hayley Park, PharmD, as the new senior vice president and chief pharmacy officer. This strategic move aims to pave the way for innovative pharmacy services that cater effectively to the healthcare needs of its members. Dr. Park brings to this role over 25 years of extensive healthcare experience, highlighted by her previous position as vice president of Pharmacy Operations and Services at Kaiser Permanente Northern California.
In her new role, Dr. Park will spearhead Blue Shield's prescription drug programs, placing particular emphasis on making medications more affordable, accessible, and convenient for members. Her leadership will also play a crucial part in amplifying the Pharmacy Care Reimagined initiative—a pioneering pharmacy management model designed to provide members with transparent and sustainably priced prescription drug services. This initiative aims to not only improve healthcare quality but also strengthen health outcomes across the board.
Susan Mullaney, chief operating officer at Blue Shield of California, expressed her enthusiasm about Dr. Park's appointment, emphasizing her dedication to patient care and cost reduction throughout her career. "Hayley is a committed leader who always prioritizes patient needs while advocating for quality improvements in the healthcare system. Her strategic vision aligns perfectly with our mission to build a healthcare system that serves our families and friends in a sustainably affordable manner," Mullaney stated.
Dr. Park’s profound experience includes reducing prescription drug costs by reshaping medication selection and management processes, especially concerning complex and high-cost treatments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her leadership was instrumental in vaccine planning and orchestrating a large-scale vaccination site, further underscoring her ability to navigate challenges effectively.
In her own words, Dr. Park expressed what attracted her to Blue Shield: "I am excited to join a mission-driven organization that is committed to enhancing member health and well-being—not purely focusing on reducing medication costs. As we advance pharmacy care towards a more connected and personalized approach, I look forward to collaborating with a team dedicated to transforming healthcare accessibility for everyone."
Dr. Park’s educational credentials include an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, a Fellowship in Pharmacoeconomics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and both her Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degrees from the University of Toronto.
