Meiji Step's New Launch: Enhancing Toddler Nutrition



On March 9, 2026, Meiji Co., Ltd. will introduce two new products: Meiji Step Follow-Up Milk and Meiji Step Easy Cubes. Aimed at toddlers aged 1 to 3 years, these formulations are specifically developed to tackle common nutritional deficiencies. The new creations will incorporate two significant ingredients: Bifidobacterium B.bifidum OLB6378 and zinc.

From a market perspective, parental surveys indicate a rising concern about whether children are receiving adequate nutrition. Approximately 45% of parents of toddlers aged 9 to 18 months worry about this essential factor. Furthermore, aside from previously acknowledged nutrients like iron and calcium, parents also noted that both bifidobacteria and zinc are critical elements potentially lacking in their children's diets.

Nutritional Benefits of the New Formulation



The Meiji Step products will include:
  • - Meiji Step 780g at a retail price of ¥2,804
  • - Meiji Step Easy Cubes available in several sizes: 112g, 560g, 840g, and 1,680g, priced between ¥501 and ¥5,923.

Both products aim to support the prevalent nutritional needs in toddlers, addressing deficiencies in iron, calcium, DHA, vitamins, and the newly added bifidobacteria and zinc. The inclusion of bifidobacteria specifically aims to maintain the healthy balance of these vital microorganisms in a toddler's gut, as studies have shown that levels decrease significantly during childhood.

The Science Behind Bifidobacterium



Bifidobacterium B.bifidum OLB6378 is celebrated for its beneficial characteristics, promoting gut health during infancy and early childhood. Earlier, in November 2025, Meiji also launched a similar bowel-friendly infant formula called Meiji Hohoemi, which received positive feedback from parents.
