Launch of MONO MAKERS PROGRAM 2026
Starting April 3, 2026, applicants can enroll in the MONO MAKERS PROGRAM 2026, a collaboration between NN Life Insurance Co., based in Tokyo, and the Japan Cultural Exchange (JCE) based in the Netherlands. This program targets young entrepreneurs in the traditional Japanese industry, focusing on the integration of Japanese craftsmanship with Dutch creative talent. The goal is to develop products that suit contemporary lifestyles and foster brand value, while aiming for expansion into European markets. Participants will receive hands-on support, including the opportunity to take part in a study tour in the Netherlands, running until the end of March 2027.
Addressing Challenges in Traditional Industries
The Japanese traditional craft sector faces numerous challenges such as a shortage of successors and declining demand. NN Life aims to create collaboration opportunities between Japan and the Netherlands as a “Small Business Supporter.” This year, leveraging their connections with small businesses and the overseas dissemination expertise developed through the MONO JAPAN initiative, JCE plans to foster international business expansion and innovation led by the next generation.
Program Details
To participate, interested parties must register on the JCE’s online platform, "MONO MAKERS MEET." This platform allows young entrepreneurs and designers in Japan who are involved in future manufacturing to connect and seek collaborative partners for product development. Once potential partnerships have been established and matches are made, pairs can apply together to submit their ideas for selection.
The chosen pairs of young entrepreneurs and designers will receive support for a series of contests and presentations scheduled until the end of March 2027. Further details can be found on the program's website.

Achievements of MONO MAKERS PROGRAM 2025
Reflecting on the MONO MAKERS PROGRAM 2025, we see notable partnerships leading to innovative creations; for instance, a collaboration that resulted in new vertically oriented blinds utilizing traditional weaving techniques. Additionally, a partnership developed an accordion-style brand reflective of the traditional Japanese wax dyeing textiles. These products were showcased at the Kyoto International Gift Show in March 2026.
