Georgia Power's Robins Battery Storage: A Leap Towards Energy Reliability
In a significant advancement for energy sustainability, Georgia Power has officially launched the
Robins Battery Storage Facility. This project, located near Warner Robins, Georgia, adds a capacity of
128-megawatts (MW) into the energy grid, a crucial step toward ensuring reliable energy supply in the Peach State.
The Celebration
On September 15, 2026, leaders from Georgia Power, local government officials, and members from the
Robins Air Force Base gathered to celebrate the facility's commencement of commercial operations. The event highlighted the collaborative efforts that facilitated this landmark project, emphasizing the role the facility will play in strengthening Georgia’s energy infrastructure and bolstering economic growth in
Macon-Bibb County.
Rick Anderson, the Senior Vice President of Georgia Power, remarked,
“This milestone is pivotal for both Georgia Power and the future of energy in our state. By integrating battery storage with solar generation, we are creating a more adaptable grid that meets customer demands, particularly during peak usage periods.”
Benefits of the Robins Battery Facility
The innovative battery energy storage system (BESS) harnesses renewable energy generated during off-peak demand and redistributes it during high-demand times. This functionality is paramount for maintaining grid reliability, especially on
cold winter mornings or during busy energy usage periods.
The Robins Battery Facility works in tandem with the
Robins Solar Facility, thus enhancing energy resilience within the region. The strategy of pairing solar generation with battery storage is a defining aspect of Georgia Power’s mission—to provide
affordable,
reliable, and
clean energy solutions for its 2.8 million customers across the state.
Future Projects and Expansion
The Robins Battery Facility is a vital component of Georgia Power's broader objective to develop cost-effective energy resources, as outlined in the
Georgia Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). Following the successful implementation of this facility, Georgia Power continues to explore additional battery storage options. To date, it has established battery storage projects across
Cherokee and
Lowndes counties, amounting to a total of 579.5 MW, and is on track to finish a 57.5 MW storage facility in
Floyd County.
Moreover, the PSC has given the green light for nine more BESS facilities, contributing over
3,000 MW in energy storage statewide. The selection process for these sites prioritized operational efficiency, strategically choosing locations near existing infrastructure.
To meet the increasing demand for cleaner energy, Georgia Power is also set to launch two solar facilities that combine solar energy production with battery storage solutions, ensuring an additional capacity of
350 MW.
