Sanrio Partners with Momoka Muraoka

Sanrio, the beloved Japanese character brand best known for Hello Kitty, has announced a new sponsorship deal with talented para alpine skier Momoka Muraoka. The collaboration seeks to further promote smiles and positivity globally, resonating with Sanrio's mission of "One World, Connecting Smiles."

Momoka Muraoka, born on March 3, 1997, in Fukaya, Saitama, began her journey in para alpine skiing after facing health challenges that led to her using a wheelchair at the age of four. She discovered chair skiing in elementary school and quickly fell in love with the sport. By her second year of junior high, she was competing nationally, ultimately earning a spot on Japan's national team at just 17 years old.

Her impressive career took off at the Sochi 2014 Paralympics, where she finished fifth in the giant slalom, marking her entry into the elite ranks of competitive para athletes. However, it was at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympics that she truly made history, capturing gold in the giant slalom and becoming the youngest Japanese athlete to win a gold medal at the Winter Paralympics, along with several podium finishes in other events.

Momoka's experiences further extended to para athletics, where she competed in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, finishing sixth in the 100 meters T54 event. She continues to break barriers in para skiing, winning three gold medals and one silver at the Beijing 2022 Paralympics.

In her own words, Momoka expressed her deep admiration for Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty and Pochacco, stating, "My life has been intertwined with Sanrio, and I am honored to be affiliated with a brand that spreads joy and unity." Through this partnership, she aims to empower others and embody the spirit of her favorite characters in her athletic pursuits.

Sanrio's sponsorship will feature its logo alongside a depiction of Hello Kitty on Momoka’s uniform, symbolizing a shared commitment to joy and determination. This partnership reflects Sanrio’s long-standing dedication to fostering smiles and promoting healthy competition among athletes.

Known for her resilience and competitive spirit, Momoka has amassed an impressive collection of accolades throughout her career, including multiple world championship medals and a record number of golds in the Winter Paralympics for a Japanese athlete. As she sets her sights on the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympics, expectations are high for her to continue her winning streak.

Sanrio’s involvement in sports, particularly its collaboration with Momoka Muraoka, aligns with the company’s vision of engaging with communities and inspiring smiles across the globe. As both Sanrio and Momoka strive toward greatness, their partnership is sure to uplift audiences and spread positivity through the power of sport.
