Exciting Celebrations at Sugamo Ootori Shrine Shopping Street!
On December 21st, despite unpredictable weather with light rain in the morning, the Sugamo Ootori Shrine Shopping Street hosted an incredible event that drew in a large crowd. From 11 AM to 4 PM, more than 900 visitors enjoyed a variety of activities held in a compact time frame. Families and local residents came together to experience the festive atmosphere filled with enticing exhibitions!
Highlights of the Event
One of the key attractions was the
Momomo-chan Design Contest Award Ceremony. Out of over 200 submissions from talented local children, winners were announced in various categories. Notably, the top prize, the Grand Prize, was awarded to Nguyen Ha Gok for their wonderful depiction of Momomo-chan in an adorable apron. Professional manga artist Haru Mikoma illustrated the winning design, merging artistic flair with community spirit.
The awardees received official certificates, meal vouchers for the event location, and unique trophies to commemorate their achievements. The winning designs were not only showcased during the event but will also feature on the soon-to-be-installed AR units located at various shops throughout the shopping street.
Additionally, awards for excellence and honorable mentions were given to other deserving participants, namely EMA, Kaya, and Ran, whose creativity shone through.
Engaging Activities and More Fun!
The event was packed with diverse and entertaining activities. Participants had the chance to engage in balloon art, try out the
Meiji Yasuda Veggie Check, and explore many other local delights. The community culture came alive as the event provided a space for interaction among families and local areas, promoting a sense of togetherness.
In February 2024, the rollout of
Momomo AR will begin with installations across six shops in the shopping street. Visitors can interact with Momomo-chan to discover recommended menu items and learn more about each participating store, invigorating interest in local offerings.
Future Initiatives and Community Engagement
The Sugamo Ootori Shrine Shopping Street also announced plans under the
Creating the Future Shopping Street Support Project. This initiative aims to reimagine the space to better serve and connect with younger generations through innovative use of AI technology. By utilizing a new mascot character, Momomo-chan, the project focuses on enhancing local engagement, historical awareness, and commercial vitality.
The Sugamo Ootori Shrine Shopping Street, with its deep-rooted history, recently merged the Sugamoi Shopping Association and Ootori Shopping Association to form a revitalized community hub. This evolution represents a commitment to not just preserving the past but also forward-thinking growth that includes youthful perspectives.
