Join the Summer Science Lab Workshop in Suwa City
On August 7, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, the Pal System Yamanashi Nagano Cooperative will host an exciting science experiment workshop at the Suwa Center located in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture. This event aims to spark curiosity among children and their parents by engaging them in hands-on experiments using everyday materials.
The workshop will feature expert instructors from the Pal System Product Inspection Center, who ensure the safety of products delivered to users. This initiative not only serves as a fun summer vacation activity but also educates participants about the scientific principles behind the products they often consume.
Fun Experiments to Explore the Science of Food
One of the highlights of the workshop is the
Paper Chromatography experiment. Participants will use common household items, such as coffee filters, water-based markers, chopsticks, and cups. By applying ink to paper and dipping it in water, children will observe the fascinating process where water travels upward, demonstrating how different color pigments separate based on their solubility in water.
This simple yet effective demonstration connects to real-world applications, as it mirrors the methods used by Pal System to analyze the presence of pesticide residues in agricultural products delivered to consumers. This hands-on experience allows kids to appreciate the importance of safety and quality assurance in food products.
Color Change in Homemade Soda
Another exciting experiment involves creating soda using herbal tea infused with anthocyanin pigments found in red and purple plants. The children will mix this herbal tea with a weak alkaline solution of baking soda and citric acid, witnessing the stunning transformation of purple soda into vibrant blue or pink right before their eyes. This experiment invites participants to ponder why the colorful beverages they enjoy have such vivid hues.
This summer, give your children the opportunity to learn through play by enrolling them in the
Summer Science Lab Workshop, where they will engage with science in a fun and interactive way. They'll leave with a newfound curiosity and understanding about the ingredients that make up their favorite foods and drinks.
