Celebrate the Blooming Cherry Blossoms at Looop's Electric Challenge Park in Shibuya

Looop's 10th Anniversary Cherry Blossom Electric Challenge Park

Looop, a pioneer in the renewable energy sector, hosted a vibrant two-day event in Shibuya called the "Sakura-saku Electric Challenge Park" on February 22 and 23, 2026. This festivity celebrated their electric retail service's decade-long journey while reinforcing the importance of electricity in our daily lives. Embracing spring's warmth, about 500 attendees, significantly surpassing initial expectations, gathered to participate in engaging activities that illuminated the vibrant community spirit.

Setting the Scene

Looop's story began as a response to the tragic Tohoku earthquake in 2011, which inspired CEO Soichiro Nakamura to provide much-needed electricity using solar panels in disaster-affected areas. Hopefully looking towards the future, Looop's ethos revolves around realizing an energy-free society as they celebrate 15 years since their inception and 10 years since launching their retail electricity service.

Today, electricity is an integral part of our lives, closely tied to various global challenges such as energy transitions and the move towards decarbonization. However, for many, electricity feels commonplace, often underestimated and unnoticed. Thus, Looop envisioned the event as a platform not only to express gratitude to their supporters but also to create an interactive experience that highlights the significance of electricity, particularly for those facing significant life transitions like exams or new beginnings.

The Experience of a Blossom

During the event, attendees were welcomed to the Shibuya Sakura Stage, where a stunning 4-meter illuminated cherry blossom was the centerpiece. Teams of participants cycled on stationary bikes to power the blossom's twinkling lights, signifying spring’s arrival through collaborative effort. Enthusiastic responses flooded in, with participants expressing joy and newfound appreciation for electricity and the festival atmosphere.

Refreshing Solar Beverages

To complement the experience, Looop offered a unique twist: a homemade solar-powered mixed juice created from fresh ingredients. Using milk from Nakashibetsu town, known for solar power education in schools, strawberries from Tochigi, and blueberries grown under solar-sharing systems, the specially crafted drinks became a hit, with 150 servings disappearing in half a day.
Participants also engaged with staff through fun electric quizzes, discovering more about solar-sharing practices and its dual benefits for agriculture and energy.

A Community-Focused Operation

The event was run by Looop staff, emphasizing personal interaction with attendees. The team’s friendly demeanor and community-focused approach received praise, making the event not only a celebration but a valuable opportunity for Looop employees to express appreciation for customer support.

Positive Feedback

Following the event, surveys indicated overwhelming satisfaction: 97% of participants found the experience enjoyable, and 91% felt they gained new insights about electricity. Social media echoed this enthusiasm, with uplifting posts showcasing blooming cherry blossoms and the vibrant mixed juice. Ultimately, the Sakura-saku Electric Challenge Park proved to be a successful endeavor, effectively bridging the gap between residents and their everyday energy use while fostering a sense of community and joy.
