Loopntale's First Solo Exhibition in Japan Focuses on Relationships and Perception

Loopntale's First Solo Exhibition in Japan

Loopntale, a dynamic artist duo based in Seoul, will host its first solo exhibition in Japan titled "알아보다【アラボダ】──気づく、知るために観察する/関わる、本質を見抜く、忘れずに覚えている". The exhibition is set to take place from August 29 to October 4, 2026, at the Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT). This collaboration with the Seoul Cultural Foundation marks an important milestone, as it is the first substantial introduction of Loopntale's work to a Japanese audience.

The exhibition encapsulates Loopntale's unique artistic approach, which intertwines video games, interactive installations, and workshops to question the relationships between marginalized presences in urban settings and the often-overlooked interactions within our environments. After a series of residencies in Tokyo in May and July 2026, where they engaged in dialogues and created new works, their exhibition aims to explore new modes of dialogue in a complex world involving human, non-human, and technological elements.

At the center of the exhibition lies the installation titled "Feed," a game that Loopntale has developed over three years, inspired by their experiences in the Tancheon area of Seoul, designated for limited development. This installation showcases the relationships they uncovered during their visits, creating an immersive experience that extends the world depicted in "Feed" to feature unknown entities responding to human emotions.

The term "알아보다 (Araboda)," the title of the exhibition, derives from the Korean compound verb merging “to know (알다)” and “to see (보다).” Although commonplace in everyday language, it carries multiple meanings, such as recognizing, identifying, investigating, and much more—nuances that do not directly translate into Japanese. It challenges participants to be actively and physically engaged in perceiving something that might already exist but only becomes apparent within the context of relationships.

Loopntale invites attendees to face the unknown or the underexplored, encouraging them to renew their perspectives and behaviors through engagement with their installations. This immersive process allows for a rethinking of how we can respond to the world and coexist with the diverse entities that populate it, delving into the new possibilities that may arise through this exploration.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily, except Mondays, unless they fall on a national holiday, in which case the center will be open on that day and closed the following weekday. Admission is free, providing an accessible gateway for visitors to interact with contemporary art and technology.
