Exploring Identity: Nori Okawa's Solo Exhibition 'Dining Table' at YUGEN Gallery

Nori Okawa's Solo Exhibition 'Dining Table' at YUGEN Gallery

From October 25 to November 16, 2025, the U.S. will witness the captivating solo exhibition titled 'Dining Table' by artist Nori Okawa at YUGEN Gallery, located on the fourth floor of the KD Minami Aoyama Building in Tokyo. Following its display in Tokyo, the exhibition will make its way to YUGEN Gallery Fukuoka, beginning on November 29 and continuing until December 11.

Nori Okawa, a graduate of Tama Art University with a major in graphic design, has transitioned into an artist of repute, having begun his journey in 2019. With a rich portfolio that integrates commercial works for renowned magazines, advertisements, and high-end brands, he has gained recognition for his visual projects. Recently, he contributed to significant events such as the global launch of Miu Miu Club Tokyo and created murals for the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

The main theme of the 'Dining Table' exhibition revolves around the concept of encountering 'foreign objects' that disrupt conventional values, leading to personal identity formation. Okawa's work - approximately 30 pieces - portray the journey of assimilating diverse perspectives, reflecting how the melding of differing values can shape and sharpen one's sense of self.

In this new exhibition, Okawa introduces a series of innovative works that combine elements of Ukiyo-e with abstract painting techniques, marking a refreshing approach in his artistic repertoire. These pieces not only pay homage to the tradition of Japanese art but also showcase Okawa's unique style, characterized by a strong graphical structuring that captivates the viewer.

The artwork intricately blends different timelines and landscapes within a single frame, infusing a noticeable dynamism that resonates throughout the exhibition space. Engaging with different cultures and values can often elicit feelings of fear or discomfort, yet this exhibition invites viewers to embrace these sensations. The confrontation with fluctuating values prompts introspection, allowing audiences to reflect on coexistence and acceptance within Okawa's artistic universe.

Visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in this thought-provoking journey at YUGEN Gallery. The exhibition is open free of charge, operating Monday through Sunday from 1 PM to 7 PM on weekdays and until 8 PM on weekends and holidays, closing at 5 PM on the final day. It is also worth noting that the exhibition will remain open without breaks during its schedule, making it accessible to all art enthusiasts.

For those interested in purchasing artwork, pieces from the exhibition will be available online at the YUGEN Gallery's official store alongside the exhibition launch.
