MND Expands Global Reach in Avalanche Risk Management and Safety Solutions

MND: A Leader in Avalanche Risk Management

MND, a French company based in Chambéry, has solidified its status as the world leader in avalanche risk management and safety solutions. Recently, the company announced new contracts that further extend its influence in key markets including Canada, the United States, Chile, Argentina, and Norway. With a commitment to innovation and reliability, MND's expansion underscores its dedication to enhancing safety in areas vulnerable to avalanches.

Recent Contracts and Projects

Canada: Safeguarding Mining Operations

In Canada, MND is tasked with ensuring the safety of access routes to the Brucejack gold mine, located in British Columbia. This critical 76-kilometer road, known as the Knipple Glacier road, must remain operational under all weather conditions. MND plans to install a Gazex system on key sections of this route, a choice made due to the reliability and autonomy that this equipment offers in extreme environments. The operator, NEWMONT, along with its distributor AVATEK, chose MND to manage this essential infrastructure.

United States: Renewing Partnerships

In the United States, the California Department of Transportation has chosen to renew its contract with MND for another three years, which includes replacing six Gazex systems in the Tahoe Valley area. This renewal signifies MND's strong relationship with key public safety agencies and its ongoing contribution to the safety of road networks in avalanche-prone regions.

Chile: Modernizing Communication Systems

MND is also making strides in Chile, particularly with CODELCO at the Los Bronces copper mine. Here, the focus is on modernizing communication systems for forty Gazex units, implementing satellite connectivity to ensure secure communication between control centers and the platform used for avalanche safety management. An additional installation planned for the Coldelco Div.Andina mine, located at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, showcases MND's capability in operating at high-altitude environments.

Argentina: Ski Resort Enhancements

In Argentina, the Las Leñas ski resort is set to benefit from upgrades to its Gazex installation. Spanning an elevation of 7,200 to 11,200 feet, MND is enhancing the existing systems to maintain safety for skiers and visitors in this well-known area. This project is vital for maintaining visitor safety and operational reliability in one of the most popular ski locations.

Norway: Protecting Ski Touring Routes

MND has also secured a significant contract in Norway, protecting the trunk road on Arnøya Island with 24 removable O’BellX® units, complemented by a weather station and radar. This strategic setup is designed to safeguard a popular ski touring route, ensuring that winter sports enthusiasts can navigate the area safely. This contract includes the operation and maintenance of the site for a renewable five-year period, demonstrating MND's long-term commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Global Impact and Innovative Solutions

In total, more than 3,000 MND systems are operational across 22 countries, safeguarding not only mining operations but also industrial sites, railways, roads, ski resorts, and communities in avalanche-prone regions. The company’s installations in the Chamonix valley, which facilitate safe access to the Mont-Blanc tunnel, stand as a testament to its reliability and technical expertise. All MND products are developed and assembled in France and come with extensive patent protections, ensuring that their innovation in avalanche risk prevention is safeguarded.

Specializing in rope access, snowmaking systems, mountain safety, and adventure-seeking leisure infrastructures, MND maintains a global presence, catering to over 3,000 clients across 49 countries. The company’s diverse core competencies underscore its status as a pioneer in mobility, leisure, and safety solutions, rooted in its extensive experience in mountain environments.

As MND continues to expand its global footprint, its focus remains on delivering sustainable solutions that not only protect lives but also promote safe enjoyment of the natural landscapes vulnerable to avalanches.
