Pirika's Innovative Waste Distribution Survey in Shinagawa
Pirika, a company based in Shibuya, Tokyo, aims to tackle environmental challenges with advanced technology. Recently, they launched a waste distribution survey service named "Tak名ume," collaborating with Terada Warehouse Co., Ltd., a key player located in Shinagawa, Tokyo. This initiative represents a significant step toward improving urban cleanliness and community engagement in waste management.
The unique aspect of this project lies in the utilization of specialized vehicles owned by Terada Warehouse, equipped with smartphones that have the Tak名ume app. These vehicles will traverse the streets of Shinagawa, collecting data on litter distribution throughout the area. By employing AI and other technological tools, the data will be visualized on a map, clearly illustrating where litter is most prevalent.
Importantly, the visual data produced is anonymized, ensuring that personal information is protected. This information will be integrated into Pirika’s waste-picking app, "SNS Pirika," which is designed to support volunteers and community groups engaged in clean-up activities. The goal is to enhance the efficiency of these initiatives and contribute to creating a cleaner, more pleasant environment for residents.
This project is part of the Tokyo Smart Service Implementation Promotion Project, known as "Be Smart Tokyo." It seeks to leverage cutting-edge technology to develop urban solutions that improve the quality of life for Tokyo residents. Digital Garage, a key supporter and facilitator in this initiative, provides essential resources and collaboration to help make this project a reality.
In terms of privacy and security, Terada Warehouse has taken significant measures to ensure that the vehicles used for data collection are not involved in customer services or regular operations. This careful consideration safeguards the privacy of individuals and the security of the data captured, focusing strictly on understanding litter distribution without identifying specific individuals or locations.
