Tokyo's Initiatives for Fostering Global Awareness Among Children

Tokyo's Advisory Board for Global Awareness

In a bid to cultivate a sense of global awareness in children, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced the establishment of an "Advisory Board for Fostering Global Awareness Opportunities." This initiative is designed to ensure that children are exposed to multicultural environments from an early age, thereby preparing them to thrive on the world stage in the future. The first advisory board meeting regarding this important venture is scheduled as follows:

Meeting Details

  • - Date and Time: February 16, 2024 (Monday) from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM
  • - Location: Large Conference Room, 7th Floor, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building

Board Composition

The board comprises various members as detailed in the document linked here. The Governor of Tokyo will lead the discussions alongside other prominent figures in the education and cultural sectors.

Theme and Agenda

The primary focus for this inaugural gathering will center around identifying the "global competencies" that should be nurtured to prepare Tokyo's youth for future successes. The agenda will include:
1. Remarks from the Governor
2. Presentations by board members
3. Open discussions for feedback and ideas

Media Coverage

The meeting will be open to journalists without the need for prior application. However, due to space limitations at the venue:
  • - Only one camera per broadcasting station will be allowed
  • - Each media organization may send one photographer

Media registration will occur in the main hall on the 7th floor of the government building, from 3:50 PM to 4:10 PM. Positions for coverage will be assigned in the order of arrival. Journalists are required to display their organizational ID badges while in the venue.

The proceedings of the meeting will be live-streamed on the Children Policy Cooperation Office’s website, accessible at this link.
Please note that individual interviews with attendees will not be permitted, and the only allowed coverage area will be the large conference room on the 7th floor.

Post-meeting, materials related to the discussions will be made available on the Children Policy Cooperation Office website.

This initiative aligns with Tokyo's "2050 Tokyo Strategy," specifically focusing on the policies that prioritize children's perspectives and needs. The ultimate goal is to empower the next generation to become global citizens, equipped with the necessary skills to navigate and succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.
