About Isehan Museum

The Isehan Museum, established in 1825 during the Bunsei era, offers free admission and explores the history and culture of 'Beni' (red pigment) and cosmetics. As the only remaining traditional Beni producer in Japan, Isehan continues to uphold the secret methods passed down through generations while providing a wealth of resources to learn about the art of Beni-making, cosmetics, and traditional crafts. Visitors can also engage in hands-on experiences with Komachi Beni and participate in lectures related to Beni, cosmetics, and traditional techniques.

What is the Petit Gallery?

Since 2018, the Petit Gallery at Isehan Museum has focused on preserving and reviving traditional Japanese craftsmanship for future generations. This initiative supports efforts to revive traditional techniques that have nearly faded away.
