Delta Electronics Collaborates with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for Advanced Energy Management

Delta Electronics Inc., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has entered into a significant agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. This partnership focuses on advancing energy management at the Mihara Works facility in Hiroshima Prefecture, recognized as a carbon-neutral model factory by Mitsubishi Heavy.

The initiative is part of Mitsubishi Heavy's broader strategy aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. It seeks to optimize energy usage and enhance operational efficiency at manufacturing sites. Delta Electronics aims to leverage its expertise in energy data analytics, consulting, IoT connectivity, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and advanced energy management systems (EMS) utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital twin technologies.

Role of Mihara Works

Mihara Works serves as a crucial hub—dubbed the "Carbon Neutral Transition Hub Mihara" (CNTH Mihara)—supporting Mitsubishi Heavy's phased decarbonization strategy. This site is essential for implementing advanced solutions and developing technologies that elevate energy management and efficiency practices across both domestic and international factories.

The first step in this agreement involves a preliminary assessment phase, where Delta Electronics will evaluate the measurement infrastructure, data connectivity, communication environment, and data management systems at CNTH Mihara. Moreover, Delta will conduct a "GX Co-Creation Energy Workshop" with Mitsubishi to identify energy-saving measures and establish KPIs for measuring effectiveness. The aim is to explore future energy data integration and advanced management through a system architecture that utilizes IoT technology.

Future Steps and Cooperation

Based on the findings from this preliminary phase, both companies will discuss the creation of a roadmap for enhancing energy management, including improvements to IoT infrastructure. The objective of this collaboration is to gather insights that optimize energy use and operations at Mitsubishi Heavy's manufacturing facilities, and to explore the feasibility of advanced energy management through AI and digital twin technologies in the future.

Delta Electronics brings decades of experience in power electronics technology and digital energy management solutions, contributing to energy efficiency improvements and decarbonization efforts within the industrial sector. By supporting the GX initiative of the manufacturing industry, Delta aims to champion the realization of a sustainable, carbon-neutral society.

Details of the Preliminary Assessment Phase

1. Local Acceptance Situation Evaluation
This involves assessing the current readiness from the perspectives of measurement infrastructure, data connectivity, communication environment, and data management. The maturity of the factory’s data and system connectivity will be organized to lay the groundwork for the future assessment of measurement, communication infrastructure, and control architecture necessary for advanced energy management.

2. GX Co-Creation Energy Workshop Implementation
Through walkthroughs of the factory site, energy usage will be reviewed to identify candidates for energy-saving measures. Simultaneously, KPIs will be defined to measure these measures' effectiveness, creating a framework to enhance the efficacy of energy improvement activities.

3. Solution Architecture Design
Future possibilities of IoT connectivity and energy data integration will lead to the exploration of a system architecture aimed at establishing a foundation for advanced energy management utilizing AI and digital twin technologies.
