California's Transportation Chief to Speak at AutoMobility LA Event in November

California's Transportation Chief Toks Omishakin to Headline AutoMobility LA

In a highly anticipated event, Toks Omishakin, the California Secretary of Transportation, has confirmed his participation as a keynote speaker at AutoMobility LA on November 20, 2025. This event provides a unique opportunity for industry leaders and media representatives to engage in direct dialogue with one of the most influential voices in the transportation sector.

The agenda will feature a live question and answer session, allowing attendees to delve into crucial transportation challenges currently facing California. "California is leading the nation in reimagining transportation, and it’s vital to connect state government policies with innovations in the automotive and transport mobility sectors," said Terri Toennies, President of the Los Angeles Auto Show. "We are honored to have Secretary Omishakin join us at AutoMobility LA to provide a direct channel to understand the policies shaping our future mobility."

Focus on Innovation and Collaboration

The midday keynote session, sponsored by Cox Automotive, will revolve around the theme: “A Direct Conversation: Engaging with California’s Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin.” During this session, Omishakin is set to discuss how California drives the next generation of transportation development through electrification, infrastructure investments, forward-looking climate policies, and the convergence of public-private innovations.

Registered attendees will have the chance to submit questions and topic suggestions for real-time discussion on the stage, followed by an open Q&A session with the audience. Omishakin stated, “When policy, innovation, and people-centered values come together, California demonstrates that anything is possible.” He emphasized the state’s commitment to expanding zero-emission readiness in communities while setting a global standard for the safe deployment of autonomous vehicles.

Over the years, California has launched several initiatives aimed at promoting cleaner, climate-friendly transportation options. Among these is the recent award program initiated by the California Air Resources Board, recognizing cities and regions that excel in increasing charging infrastructure, supporting zero-emission vehicle adoption, and formulating equitable innovation policies—key components in reducing the state’s carbon footprint.

In a push for innovation, the California Department of Motor Vehicles proposed expanding its autonomous vehicle regulations to include heavy trucks, further solidifying California's leadership in automotive and transport innovation. This regulatory proposal introduces a phased permitting process, stricter safety and reporting standards, and enhanced enforcement powers to improve road safety and efficiency while supporting goods transportation.

Since taking office in 2022, Omishakin has overseen all eight state transport departments, committees, and councils, which collectively employ over 42,000 individuals and manage an annual budget exceeding $30 billion. Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Director of Caltrans for three years.
